PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maynard Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Maynard Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coleman drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.
Johnson fails to pull guard.
Johnson prevents a takedown attempt there.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Coleman as Johnson tries to tie him up.

Coleman drags the fight down to the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Johnson throwing strikes from guard but Coleman blocks nicely.
Johnson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Johnson being controlled here momentarily.
Coleman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard.
Coleman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Coleman wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position.
Coleman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Coleman controls the pace.
Coleman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Johnson wants to control but Coleman postures up.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Coleman wants to stand but Johnson is controlling his arm.
Johnson is trying to get back to half guard.
Johnson wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Coleman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Coleman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Johnson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Coleman tries to stand but Johnson is controlling his head.
Coleman in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Coleman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Coleman wants to clinch up but Johnson keeps it at a distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt

and Coleman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Coleman advances to half guard.
Johnson looks winded!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Coleman wants to stand but Johnson has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Johnson is trying to control but Coleman passes into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coleman lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Coleman is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Johnson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Coleman passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Johnson!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maynard Coleman dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Johnson tries for a takedown but Coleman circles away easily

and Coleman counters by moving into the clinch.

Coleman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Coleman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Johnson is looking for a sweep.
Coleman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.

Coleman grinds an elbow into Johnson's temple.

Johnson is breathing heavily.
Coleman controlling the position from side mount.

Johnson tries to buck Coleman off but Coleman is having none of it.
Johnson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Coleman connects with a decent elbow.
Johnson taking punishment in the form of punches.
Coleman is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Johnson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Coleman advances nicely into full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Coleman controlling his opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Coleman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Johnson for as long as he can get away with.
Johnson in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Coleman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Coleman lands a couple of good shots and Johnson has given up his back, trying to escape the position!


Johnson is rocked!

Coleman is persistently looking for the submission but Johnson is defending it well.
Johnson is still in real trouble! Can Coleman finish him?
Coleman controls the action.

Johnson holding both Coleman 's hands and preventing any damage.
Johnson is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Coleman lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Coleman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Coleman is loading up with his shots from the back and Johnson is in big trouble! Johnson taps out to strikes and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Maynard Coleman!
