Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Terry Hobbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Reink!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reink scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Reink looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Reink trying to control the action but Hobbs is working from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Hobbs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hobbs manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hobbs wants to get back to full guard.
Hobbs is trying to stand back up but Reink is controlling him
Reink missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Hobbs tries to kick Reink off but Reink keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Hobbs is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Hobbs trying to hold on to Reink's head to control him but Reink postures up.

Reink trying to control from half guard but Hobbs is working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hobbs darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hobbs is trying to control the action in half guard but Reink is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well, if Hobbs is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Reink trying to hold on to Hobbs's head to control him but Hobbs postures up.

Terry Hobbs has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hobbs gets a clinch.

Hobbs decides to pull guard.
Hobbs is controlling Reink's posture.

Reink avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Reink trying to control the position from guard on top but Hobbs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hobbs is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hobbs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reink on the ground.
Reink trying to control but Hobbs is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hobbs takes the fight into the clinch.

Reink gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
My spies in Cozad MMA Hilo inform me that Reink has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hobbs looking to control.
Reink won't allow Hobbs to get back to his feet.

Hobbs has his foot on Reink's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reink works his way back into a safe position though.
Reink stops Hobbs from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reink is breathing heavily.

Hobbs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reink doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reink manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hobbs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reink gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Reink throws a big right hand that misses.
Reink stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hobbs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hobbs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Reink is aware though and is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reink looking to sit in guard and control but Hobbs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reink looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hobbs passes into side control.
Reink is trying to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hobbs tries to stand but Reink is controlling his head.

Hobbs looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Hobbs wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Reink, who protects the arm well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Reink is trying to control Hobbs's posture but Hobbs avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Terry Hobbs will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Hobbs shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hobbs controlling the pace.
Reink takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Terry Hobbs has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hobbs darts in and clinches Reink up against the cage.

Hobbs jumps guard.
Hobbs pulls Reink in close to his closed guard and prevents Reink from doing any damage or advancing position.
Reink postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hobbs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reink can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hobbs keeping moving, preventing Reink from controlling successfully.
Reink postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hobbs is trying to keep Reink in close.
Reink working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Hobbs is trying to control the position but Reink postures up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Terry Hobbs has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hobbs has closed the distance and engaged Reink in a clinch.

Hobbs decides to pull guard.
Terry Hobbs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Reink wants to control from the top but Hobbs keeps moving.
Reink throws an elbow that misses. Hobbs uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Reink's guard. Nice move by Hobbs!
Hobbs seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Alex Reink has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Reink is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Terry Hobbs wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Hobbs throws a leg kick that misses.

Hobbs drives through and clinches with Reink against the cage.

Hobbs turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Terry Hobbs showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hobbs has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
