PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Hyatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikos Stalikas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hyatt comes to the cage accompanied by Street fighter. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Hyatt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nikos Stalikas!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stalikas throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stalikas takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Stalikas pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Stalikas goes for a double leg but Hyatt avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hyatt continues to drive forward.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Stalikas.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Hyatt pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Stalikas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hyatt's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hyatt is trying to control the position but Stalikas postures up.
Hyatt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stalikas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hyatt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hyatt is pulling down on Stalikas's head. It's preventing any offense from Stalikas, at least for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Jimmy Hyatt wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Stalikas needs to keep his hands up - Hyatt had a free shot at his head there.
Stalikas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hyatt lands a nice looking body shot.
Hyatt lands a jab to Stalikas's midsection.
Stalikas misses with a two punch combination.
We've been told by Hyatt's head coaches at Demon's stand up gym, LOP that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Stalikas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jimmy Hyatt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikos Stalikas.
Hyatt swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Stalikas.
Stalikas thows a left - swing and a miss!
Stalikas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stalikas takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Stalikas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hyatt defends well and Stalikas ends up having to push Hyatt into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Stalikas has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hyatt avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hyatt lands on the inside with an uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hyatt misses with a punch on the inside.
Hyatt tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Hyatt tries to circle away but Stalikas has him pinned against the cage.
Stalikas takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Nikos Stalikas has been cut.
Nice body punch from Hyatt.

Stalikas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Stalikas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hyatt is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stalikas trying to control the position but Hyatt is working away.
Stalikas is trying to ground and pound but Hyatt uses the momentary lack of control by Stalikas to regain half guard.
Stalikas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hyatt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Stalikas not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hyatt is controlling Stalikas's trapped leg to prevent Stalikas from advancing to side control.
Stalikas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hyatt is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hyatt is trying to get back to full guard.
Stalikas seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hyatt wants to get back to full guard.
Stalikas sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Hyatt defending well though.
Hyatt is looking for a sweep. Stalikas is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hyatt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hyatt wants it to stay on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stalikas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stalikas takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Hyatt throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice takedown defense from Hyatt. No joy for Stalikas on that attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Hyatt dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Nikos Stalikas's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Stalikas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hyatt but Hyatt pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hyatt scores with a spinning back kick!
Stalikas takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Hyatt uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Stalikas has time to react.
Hyatt wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Hyatt throws a low kick but Stalikas moves out of range easily.
Stalikas throws out a loose jab but Hyatt uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hyatt lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Hyatt closes the distance and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hyatt misses with a hook from the clinch.

Stalikas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hyatt scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Stalikas doesn't seem bothered though.
Hyatt scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Hyatt buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Stalikas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Sloppy strikes from Stalikas. Those never looked like landing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stalikas moves forwards but Hyatt connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Stalikas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hyatt circles away quickly and effectively.
Hyatt is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Hyatt scores with a nice head shot.
Stalikas throws a hook but Hyatt blocks it.
Stalikas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jimmy Hyatt is winning the standup battle so far.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Hyatt.
Hyatt lands a lovely overhand right.
Hyatt lands a glancing blow to the side of Stalikas's head.
Stalikas takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Stalikas misses with a straight left.
Hyatt ducks under a wild hook from Stalikas.
Hyatt tests Stalikas's chin there with a solid looking shot.


That has opened up Nikos Stalikas's cut even more.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hyatt lands a big head kick that sends Stalikas tumbling to the mat! Hyatt takes a step backwards and waves Stalikas back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Stalikas is rocked!
Stalikas moves out of range of the strikes.
Stalikas is still on wobbly legs! Can Hyatt finish him?
Stalikas displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hyatt throws out the jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hyatt lands with a right and another and another! Stalikas is in big trouble! Hyatt lands again and this time it's lights out for Stalikas! A quality knockout there for Hyatt.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jimmy Hyatt!
A relieved looking Jimmy Hyatt thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
