The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byers fails in his attempt to clinch.

Byers closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Byers lands in his opponent's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Byers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Byers wants to stand and escape but instead Joll has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Joll's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Byers is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joll forces his way into half guard.
Byers has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Joll is working away from the top position though.

Joll thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Joll lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Byers wants to get back to full guard but Joll has passed into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Joll fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Byers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Joll on the ground.
