PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Haigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zach Didion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Haigh might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Macabre - Acid Bath Vampire. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Haigh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zach Didion!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Didion loads up on a big right hand but Haigh slips the punch.
Didion looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Haigh uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Didion.
Haigh misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Didion.
Haigh has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Haigh takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Didion wants to clinch up but Haigh keeps it at a distance.
Didion looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Haigh uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Didion.
Didion has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Haigh finds it's way round the side to connect with Didion's head.
Haigh on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Didion. Didion obviously looking to wear him down.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Haigh connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Didion throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Didion is looking to slow Haigh down with leg kicks.

Haigh throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Didion was covering up waiting for the punch and Haigh finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Didion has a closed guard, preventing Haigh from standing up.
Haigh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Didion swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Didion wants to stand and escape but Haigh is having none of it.

Haigh drops back, looking for a kneebar! Didion looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Didion looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Didion!

Didion tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Didion has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Haigh can't do much from the bottom here.

Haigh sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Didion not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Didion tries to pass the half guard into mount. Haigh knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Didion is trying to work for a kimura but Haigh is defending well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Didion misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

You can see the frustration on Haigh's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Haigh tries to buck Didion off but Didion is having none of it.

Haigh manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Haigh is refusing to be controlled, as Didion sits in half guard.

Haigh wants to control the action here but instead Didion manages to pass to full mount!

Haigh is squirming around, avoiding Didion's attempts to control the action.
Haigh is desperately trying to improve his position but Didion has a good base and remains in mount.
Haigh tries to lock up and control but Didion gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Didion stands up from mount. Strange move.

Haigh fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Didion sprawls well initially but Haigh persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Haigh is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Didion sees it coming and defends easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Haigh will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Didion slaps away a takedown attempt from Haigh, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Didion swings for the body but Haigh moves out of range.

It looks like John Haigh has been cut.

Haigh rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Didion makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Oh Haigh is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Haigh drops his hands momentarily and Didion needs no second invitation. He sets himself and throws a perfect high kick, that clips Haigh just on the top of the head. Haigh drops like a sack of potatoes to the canvas, out cold! Oooooooh yeah! Stick a fork in Haigh - he's done!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Zach Didion!
Zach Didion took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
John Haigh was interviewed post fight and said 'Vittu.'.
