Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Robby Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wendel Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robby Avery has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robby Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wendel Gomes!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Gomes as Avery shoots in.
Avery misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Avery rushes Gomes and presses him up against the cage.
Gomes is trying to break the clinch but Avery is controlling him.

Gomes manages to break the clinch.
Avery tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gomes defends well and Avery ends up having to push Gomes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Gomes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

so Gomes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Avery has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gomes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gomes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Avery tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gomes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Gomes. No joy for Avery on that attempt.

Avery shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gomes pinned against the cage. Gomes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gomes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Avery will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Avery tries to close the distance and clinch but Gomes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Avery keeps control of Gomes as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Avery changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gomes tries to avoid it but Avery manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gomes to the ground. Gomes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gomes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Gomes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Gomes is looking to take a break and control but Avery is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Avery's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gomes remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Gomes cracks Avery with a big right hand but Avery just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
