The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Desperately wants to clinch up but Axelsson keeps it at a distance.
Desperately ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Axelsson moves away.

Desperately instigates a clinch.
Desperately can't find room to land a body shot as Axelsson controls the action.
Axelsson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Desperately throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Axelssons head.
Desperately keeps control of Axelsson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Desperately comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Axelsson managing to block the knees to the body from Desperately.

Axelsson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Desperately smiles and moves away.

Desperately stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Axelsson.
Desperately fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Axelsson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Axelsson throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Axelsson moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Axelsson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Axelsson tries to score with a low kick but Desperately moves his leg out of the way.
Desperately moves into range and connects with a jab.
Desperately tries to clinch but Axelsson moves out of range.
Struggling Desperately is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Axelsson throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Desperately rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Axelsson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Desperately's guard now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Axelsson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Desperately doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Desperately manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Desperately trying to control the position from guard on top but Axelsson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Axelsson has his hands on Desperately's head, controlling the position.
Desperately must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Desperately wants to control from the top but Axelsson keeps moving.
Axelsson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Desperately's guard.
Desperately not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Desperately can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Axelsson controls the pace.
Axelsson passes Desperately's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Desperately misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Axelsson.
Axelsson shoots for a double leg takedown but Desperately sprawls well. He's pushed Axelsson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Desperately's jab looks to have found its range, popping Axelsson under the eye.
Axelsson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Desperately but Desperately pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A punch lands to the side of Axelsson 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Desperately throws a body punch but Axelsson moves out of range.
Axelsson shoots in looking for a takedown. Desperately tries to sprawl out of it but Axelsson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Desperately manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Magnus Axelsson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Axelsson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Struggling Desperately seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Axelsson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Desperately connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Axelsson's hands.
Desperately lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Axelsson is rocked!
Desperately batters Axelsson with a massive right followed by a huge left! Axelsson is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Desperately lands a final crushing right hand to drop Axelsson to the mat with a gruesome thud! Desperately is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
