PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Prince Pruitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lesner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brock Lesner will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Prince Pruitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brock Lesner!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesner tries to clinch there but Pruitt circles away.
Lesner shoots and misses

and Pruitt counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pruitt.

Pruitt jumps guard.
Pruitt has his hands on Lesner's head, controlling the position.
Lesner wants to get up but he can't break Pruitt's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Pruitt controls Lesner momentarily but Lesner frees himself.
Lesner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Lesner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pruitt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lesner has managed to get both his arms back between Pruitt's legs - danger averted.
Pruitt keeping full guard, as Lesner tries to pass.
Pruitt will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Lesner wants to control from the top but Pruitt keeps moving.
Pruitt throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Pruitt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pruitt pulls Lesner in close to prevent any damage.
Pruitt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lesner wants to control from the top but Pruitt keeps moving.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Brock Lesner hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Pruitt stuffs the takedown.
Lesner closes the distance but Pruitt moves to the side

and Pruitt counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Pruitt's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Pruitt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pruitt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lesner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lesner throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Pruitt wanted to stand there but Lesner had control of the position.

Lesner gets caught napping as Pruitt dives in and scores a takedown. Lesner manages to retain guard.

Lesner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pruitt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pruitt postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Pruitt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lesner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pruitt not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Pruitt wants to stand but Lesner is controlling his posture from full guard.

Lesner is looking to sweep but instead, Pruitt has passed into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pruitt shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lesner is trying to defend but Pruitt finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Pruitt content to control rather than advance.
Pruitt seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lesner for as long as he can get away with.

Pruitt seems to be looking for submissions.

Pruitt drops an elbow to the side of Lesner's head.

Lesner pushes Pruitt off looking to stand but Pruitt dives back in and keeps control.

Pruitt is pushing down on Lesner's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lesner is fighting to maintain full guard but Pruitt has managed to sneak the leg through.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lesner shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pruitt pinned against the cage. Pruitt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Pruitt closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lesner to the mat! Lesner manages to get full guard.
Lesner wants to sweep but no luck.

Prince Pruitt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lesner takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Pruitt's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Pruitt shoots in looking for a takedown but Lesner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pruitt's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
