PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Bentner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruslan Azarow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bentner kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is My Dick. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Bentner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ruslan Azarow!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azarow lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bentner circles away quickly and effectively.

Bentner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bentner wants to pass the guard but Azarow is keeping the position.
Bentner controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We're going to have a standup here because Nick Bentner wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Bentner shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Azarow's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bentner passes Azarow's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Bentner is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Azarow has managed to free his arm - good work.
Bentner takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Bentner missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bentner thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Azarow's head.

Azarow wants to improve his position but Bentner is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Azarow is trying to stand up here but Bentner is controlling him well.

Bentner working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Bentner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Bentner definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bentner seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Azarow for as long as he can get away with.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Nick Bentner has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Azarow misses with the combination.

Bentner drives through and clinches with Azarow against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Azarow tries to break free but Bentner pushes him back against the cage.
Bentner wants a takedown.

Bentner jumps guard and drags Azarow to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Azarow is looking to stand up but Bentner won't let him.
Bentner pulls Azarow in close to prevent any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nick Bentner.
Azarow throws a lazy right hand but Bentner sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Azarow has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

Bentner drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bentner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Bentner dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Azarow throws a low kick but Bentner avoids it.

Azarow drives through and clinches with Bentner against the cage.
Bentner goes for a takedown in the clinch but Azarow prevents it.
Azarow tries to circle away but Bentner has him pinned against the cage.
Azarow wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bentner has him pressed against the cage.
Bentner has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Azarow is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Azarow is trying to force a seperation but Bentner has the dominant position.
Azarow wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bentner has him pressed against the cage.
Bentner prevents a takedown attempt there.
Bentner drops down looking for an ankle pick but Azarow pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Bentner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Azarow throws a body kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Azarow misses with a kick to the body.
Azarow throws the left hand but Bentner avoids the punch easily.
Azarow catches Bentner with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

so Bentner counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Azarow is breathing heavily.
Bentner advances to half guard.
Bentner passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Azarow!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bentner connects with a couple of good shots from mount.


Azarow is rocked!

Bentner is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Azarow has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Azarow is still in real trouble! Can Bentner finish him?
Bentner connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Bentner punishing his opponent with strikes.
Bentner postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Azarow badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Bentner around the waist but Bentner pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Bentner is the winner by TKO! Bentner jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nick Bentner!
Our winner, Nick Bentner, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
