PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jack Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Ishikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clark comes into the arena with Rent a Wreck blaring out of the sound system. Ishikawa has chosen mindshift genki sudo as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 18 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Clark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Ishikawa!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Roberts and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clark fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ishikawa on the side of the head.
Clark connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ishikawa momentarily.
A thudding body kick lands there by Ishikawa!
Clark avoids the head kick by Ishikawa.
Ishikawa connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Clark's hands.
Clark misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ishikawa.
Ishikawa throws a head kick but Clark moves out of range.

Ishikawa shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Clark manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Clark utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Clark is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Ishikawa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Clark lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ishikawa!

Ishikawa manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Clark keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Clark is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Clark fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Clark scores with a nice hook to the head.

Clark swings wildly with an uppercut but Ishikawa uses good head movement to avoid it.

A bit of stalling here from Clark.
Ishikawa tries to pull guard but Clark won't allow it.

Ishikawa changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Clark fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jack Clark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akira Ishikawa.
Sloppy strikes from Ishikawa. Those never looked like landing.
Ishikawa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Clark as he jumps to the side.

Ishikawa has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Clark finds it's way round the side to connect with Ishikawa's head.

Ishikawa throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Clark was covering up waiting for the punch and Ishikawa finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Clark knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ishikawa on the ground.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Clark will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Akira Ishikawa dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ishikawa shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
A left lands for Clark.
Clark moves into range and connects with a jab.
Akira Ishikawa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Clark misses with a hook. Ishikawa ducked under it nicely.
Clark is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Clark avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Ishikawa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Clark swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Clark lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Clark scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ishikawa.
Clark lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Clark is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Clark throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ishikawa sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Ishikawa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ishikawa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clark as he avoids it easily.

Ishikawa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Clark avoids it really well and circles away.
