Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Corey Patten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Corey Patten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Austin Bates!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patten looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bates.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Patten is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Bates controlling the position.

Bates decides to stand up, so the ref orders Patten to his feet.
Patten tries to close the distance and clinch but Bates swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Patten misses with the combination.

Bates shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Patten is trying to defend but Bates finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bates stalling.
Bates is keen to just control but Patten is a slippery customer.
Patten is trying to stand up here but Bates is controlling him well.
Patten trying to control from the bottom.
Patten has hold of Bates's hands but Bates slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Patten is looking to control Bates's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Patten avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bates tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bates trying to control the action but Patten is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bates throws a low kick, looking for Patten's leg but Patten calmly moves out of range.

Bates closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Patten to the mat! Patten manages to get full guard.
Patten is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Patten keeping full guard, as Bates tries to pass.
Bates trying to stand up but can't free himself from Patten's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bates pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Patten is keeping the position for now.
Bates really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Patten. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bates wants to control from the top but Patten keeps moving.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Bates has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Patten is proving hard to escape from.
Bates looks winded!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bates throws a nice looking combination but Patten bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Bates shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Patten closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Patten manages to pull guard.
Patten tries to strike from the bottom.

Patten has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Bates should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Patten has tightened it up now! Bates should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Corey Patten!
