Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Redban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redban has chosen M83 - Midnight City as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brian Redban!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redban uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shields.
Shields takes a swing at Redban's ribcage but misses.
Redban lands with a right hand.
Redban throws a sloppy head kick and Shields moves out of range easily.
Decent striking displayed by Redban there.
Redban lands a jab-cross combination.
Shields ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A telegraphed right hand from Redban misses the target.
Redban throws a body kick that misses.

Redban gets caught napping as Shields dives in and scores a takedown. Redban manages to retain guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Redban keeping full guard, as Shields tries to pass.
Redban controls Shields momentarily but Shields frees himself.
Shields throws a big elbow that misses.
Redban looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shields is one step ahead there.

Shields throws a big right hand that misses.
Shields has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shields trying to control but Redban is working from the bottom.
Redban looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shields is one step ahead there.
Shields is looking to work some ground and pound but Redban has wrist control.
Shields slips nicely into half guard.
Redban is trying to maintain the position but Shields is very close to passing his half guard.

Shields is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Redban is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Shields is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Redban sees it coming and defends easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shields is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Redban is just riding it out for now. Shields eventually gives up the hold.
Shields takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Shields tries to pass to full mount but Redban defends it.
Redban manages to get to full guard.
Redban not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Redban can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shields controls the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Redban throws a hook but Shields avoids it easily.
Shields ducks under a wild hook from Redban.
Redban feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Shieldss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Redban scores with a shot to the body.
Shields looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Shields takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shields steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Redban.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Redban uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shields.
Redban ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shields moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Redban dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Shields throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shields avoids the body shot from Redban.

Shields lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Redban at a distance.
Brian Redban seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Shields shoots in and drives through. Redban sprawls well.
Redban fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Shields fails with a takedown attempt.
Redban lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Brian Redban seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shields takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Shields walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Shields lands with a straight right. Redban didn't see that one coming.
Redban takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Shields displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Redban throws out the jab.

Redban tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Shields has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Redban wants to hold on but Shields pushes him away.

Shields takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Shields scoring with strikes but Redban is staying in there.
Shields postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Redban looks a forlorn figure.
Redban tries to lock up and control but Shields gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Redban manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Shields working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Redban is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shields's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shields's back!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Redban throws a jab but it's blocked by Shields.
Shields uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Redban.

Redban fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shields manages to avoid it.

Shields bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Redban gets caught flat footed, as Shields shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Redban is adopting a defensive guard.
Redban wants to sweep here but Shields controlling him for the moment.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shields loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Redban is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shields is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nick Shields.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nick Shields will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Shields throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Redban sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Redban rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shields moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The fighters circling - Redban throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Redban has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Redban there as he acknowledges the shot.

Redban throws the left hand but Shields avoids the punch easily.
Redban missing with a left hand there. Shields was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Redban throws a series of strikes that have Shields backpedaling.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Redban.

Redban is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shields.

Nick Shields overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shields seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nick Shields.
I think Shields has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
