PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hanlon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Misiek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Misiek comes into a darkened arena with his song building. El Picante kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rafael Misiek!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Andrew Berry and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Misiek thuds a left hand into Hanlon's body.
Hanlon takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've been hearing reports that Hanlon has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Misiek lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Misiek tries to clinch there but Hanlon circles away.
Hanlon keeps the fight on the outside.

Misiek has closed the distance and engaged Hanlon in a clinch.
Hanlon is trying to break the clinch but Misiek is controlling him.

Misiek has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. So far he's outscoring his opponent in the clinch so it seems to have been worthwhile.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Misiek can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hanlon wants to pass to mount but Misiek is defending the position.
Hanlon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hanlon connects with a nice short shot to Misiek's temple.

Hanlon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Misiek is just riding it out for now. Hanlon eventually gives up the hold.
Misiek is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hanlon scores with a couple of nice shots.

Misiek is looking to control Hanlon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Misiek avoid being mounted?
Hanlon winds up and cracks Misiek with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Hanlon looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Misiek with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mark Hanlon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Misiek tries to roll over but Hanlon keeps him under control.

Rafael Misiek is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A jab from Misiek finds it's way through Hanlon's defenses.
Misiek paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
The fight stays on the outside here - Misiek looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Hanlon counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Misiek's guard now.

Hanlon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hanlon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hanlon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Misiek swivels though and keeps the full guard.
