PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xander Hogsback (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trent Punchy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trent Punchy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xander Hogsback!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trent Punchy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Punchy looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Punchy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Punchy won't allow Hogsback to sweep him here.
Punchy slips nicely into half guard.
Punchy is looking to advance position but Hogsback won't allow it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Punchy wants to work for an arm triangle but Hogsback is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Punchy not doing much here.

Hogsback trying to control but Punchy postures up.

Punchy is looking for a kimura but Hogsback is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Punchy to get the leverage.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hogsback is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hogsback is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at ~Abobomination Training $700 13 LEGIT elite coache that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Punchy throws a jab when Hogsback was well out of range.
Hogsback fails in his attempt to clinch.
Punchy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hogsback manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Punchy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hogsback napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Punchy slows the pace down.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like Punchy might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Trent Punchy wasn't active enough on the ground.
Punchy wants to land a leg kick but Hogsback is out of range.

Punchy tries for a kimura but Hogsback is defending well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Punchy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hogsback's half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A leg kick checked by Hogsback.
Punchy throws a leg kick but Hogsback moved away.
Hogsback tries to clinch up but Punchy circles away and keeps his distance.

Punchy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Punchy is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hogsback wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Trent Punchy.
Hogsback shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Punchy counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Punchy with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Punchy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Punchy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hogsback doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Punchy.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hogsback manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trent Punchy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Punchy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hogsback swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Punchy misses with a hook. Hogsback ducked under it nicely.
Hogsback shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Punchy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Punchy is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Trent Punchy has got the better of the ground game so far.
Punchy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hogsback is looking to reverse the position.
A lull in the action here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Punchy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hogsback, who protects the arm well.
Hogsback seems a little lost for a moment, as Punchy dominates the positioning.

Punchy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Punchy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hogsback is trying to get back to half guard.

Punchy tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Trent Punchy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Punchy is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Hogsback's shoulder. That is not cool.

Trent Punchy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Punchy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
