PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Kampmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammer kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Slippin. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Hammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Kampmann!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hammer throws an overhand right that lands on Kampmann's shoulder, as Kampmann tries to avoid the shot.
Martin Kampmann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hammer chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kampmann can pounce on him.

Kampmann rushes Hammer and presses him up against the ropes.
Hammer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kampmann prevents it.
Kampmann lands a shot to the body.

Kampmann has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hammer is proving hard to escape from.
Hammer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kampmann is one step ahead there.
We've been hearing good reports from Hammer's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Kampmann tries to free his leg and advance position but Hammer is retaining full guard.

Hammer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kampmann doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kampmann manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kampmann really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hammer controls Kampmann momentarily but Kampmann frees himself.
Hammer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Hammer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Donk. Kampmann catches Hammer right on the button with a cross.

Hammer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kampmann napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kampmann felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hammer works to advance to full mount. Kampmann defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Hammer is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kampmann is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Kampmann wants to hold on but Hammer pushes him away.
Hammer fails to move to back control.
Hammer looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hammer tries to control but Kampmann wriggling away.

Hammer is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Kampmann is forced to tap! Great finish!
