Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maximo Stephens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Kopyto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Maximo Stephens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Kopyto!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kopyto gets tackled into the cage by Stephens. Stephens maintains the clinch.

Kopyto ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kopyto no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Kopyto keeping moving, preventing Stephens from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kopyto had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stephens defends it easily.
Stephens sitting in guard here, content to control.
Kopyto looking for a sweep. Not yet Kopyto, not yet.
Stephens slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Maximo Stephens wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A nice combination there by Kopyto.


It looks like Maximo Stephens has been cut.
Stephens throws a combination that misses
and Kopyto counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Stephens closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kopyto to the mat! Kopyto manages to get full guard.
Kopyto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stephens manages to get himself to full guard.
Stephens wants to sweep here but Kopyto controlling him for the moment.

Kopyto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Andrew Kopyto was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Stephens shoots in and bounces Kopyto off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kopyto throws a couple of heel strikes.
Kopyto is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Kopyto has a closed guard, preventing Stephens from standing up.
Stephens trying to control but Kopyto is working from the bottom.
Kopyto doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kopyto wants to get back to his feet but Stephens is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Stephens has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Maximo Stephens has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Stephens tries to close the distance and clinch but Kopyto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kopyto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stephens manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Kopyto tries to land a sweep but no joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stephens is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Andrew Kopyto will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Maximo Stephens's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kopyto is looking to clinch but Stephens is avoiding it.

Maximo Stephens overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Stephens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kopyto swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kopyto controls Stephens momentarily but Stephens frees himself.

Kopyto is trying to hold Stephens in close to prevent damage but Stephens has managed to pass into half guard.
Kopyto tries to get to full guard but Stephens has control of the leg.

Stephens landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Stephens wants to stand up but Kopyto has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Stephens uses his free foot to push down on Kopyto's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kopyto.
Kopyto tries to hold on but Stephens postures up.
Kopyto is squirming around, avoiding Stephens's attempts to control the action.
Stephens knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kopyto on the ground.

Stephens has control of Kopyto's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kopyto regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Stephens takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kopyto is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maximo Stephens dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Andrew Kopyto wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kopyto throws a head kick but Stephens moves out of range.

Kopyto trying to control the position from guard on top but Stephens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kopyto takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kopyto is thwarting Stephens's attempts to control the position.
Stephens wants to improve his position but Kopyto is controlling well.
Stephens preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Stephens is trying to get back to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kopyto misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kopyto shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Stephens counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Stephens slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Stephens lands a couple of digs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stephens won't allow Kopyto to sweep him here.
Kopyto looking to control.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Stephens's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Stephens counters with a stiff right hand.

Maximo Stephens showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Stephens has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
