Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Alvarez Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banner's entrance music is Metallica's Ride The Lightning . A fine choice. Flare comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Also Sprach Zarathustra kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Alvarez Banner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Flare!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banner doesn't manage to clinch there - Flare circles away.
Banner moves in looking to clinch but Flare pushes him off.
Banner lands with a cross.
Flare dives in and grabs Banner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Banner pushes down on Flare's head and hops out.
Banner leaves Flare with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Banner displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Banner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Flare was well out of range. Poor timing from Banner.
Banner has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Sydney Elite Systems in the buildup to the fight.
Banner shoots in for a takedown but Flare shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Banner lands the left hand.

Banner changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Flare looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Banner cracks Flare with a big right hand but Flare just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Flare is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Banner scores with a couple of short elbows.
Banner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Banner tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Flare manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Banner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Flare is just riding it out for now. Banner eventually gives up the hold.

Flare is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Banner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Banner's back!

Flare seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Banner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Flare with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Banner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Flare can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Flare got a little sloppy there for a moment and Banner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Flare has managed to get both his arms back between Banner's legs - danger averted.

Banner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Flare makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Flare postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Banner is looking for a triangle but Flare pushes his legs off easily.
Flare trying to control the position from guard on top but Banner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Alvarez Banner dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Flare uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Banner.

Banner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bruce Alvarez Banner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Banner thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Banner looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Flare with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Banner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Flare gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Banner has his foot on Flare's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Flare works his way back into a safe position though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bruce Alvarez Banner.
Well Banner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
