PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Merik Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunt comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Comfortably Numb kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Ricardo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Merik Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hunt circles away.
A good leg kick by Hunt.
Hunt misses with a few strikes there.
Gracie misses with a leg kick

and Hunt counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hunt stopping the sweep attempt from Gracie.
Hunt works over Gracie with some ground and pound from guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gracie throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hunt escapes and throws Gracie's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie is not content to let Hunt control the position.
Hunt lands a decent elbow from side control.

Gracie's coaches at Team Anarchy MMA have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Gracie throws a sloppy strike and Hunt uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Hunt has ended up in Gracie's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hunt wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Hunt postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hunt is in close to Gracie's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hunt is aware though and is defending well.
Hunt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gracie has momentary wrist control but Hunt slips an elbow through the middle.
Hunt distracts Gracie with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Hunt avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hunt stands up over Gracie, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hunt trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hunt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hunt is pushing down on Gracie's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gracie is fighting to maintain full guard but Hunt has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hunt slows the pace down in half guard.
Gracie wants to improve his position but Hunt is controlling well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hunt scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Merik Hunt dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Gracie moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Gracie scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Hunt scores with the left hand. Gracie knows he should have avoided that one.
Gracie avoids the body shot from Hunt.
The crowd cheers as Hunt lands an impressive looking overhand right. Gracie doesn't seem phased though.
Hunt's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gracie under the eye.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hunt.

Hunt looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Gracie!

Gracie is trying to improve his position.

Gracie is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Hunt lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gracie down.
Gracie is looking for a sweep.
Hunt connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Gracie some visible discomfort.
Gracie is looking to reverse the position.
Gracie is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hunt scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Gracie to see if he's OK.

Gracie gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hunt winds up and cracks Gracie with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Gracie is controlling Hunt's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Gracie is not content to let Hunt control the position.
Hunt prevents Gracie from improving his position.
Hunt thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gracie's head.
Hunt frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Hunt tries to control but Gracie wriggling away.
Hunt scoring with strikes but Gracie is staying in there.
Hunt connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Gracie tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hunt lands a big elbow.
Merik Hunt has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gracie is wriggling around trying to escape.

Hunt takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Hunt lands a big shot there that rocks Gracie but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Oh Gracie is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hunt is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hunt postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gracie looks a forlorn figure.
Gracie keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The referee warns Gracie that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Hunt! Gracie is hurt baaadly! Hunt is firing away with more strikes - Gracie is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Merik Hunt!
A relieved looking Merik Hunt thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
