The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kakoullis scores with a punch to the head.

Grape closes the distance and clinches up with Kakoullis, looking for a takedown. Grape pushes Kakoullis against the cage but Kakoullis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Grape shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Grape felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kakoullis remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That was a close round but I would say that Sotiris Kakoullis will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

We've been told by Kakoullis's head coaches at Gym Beam that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Kakoullis lets his hands go wild with a nice combination. Left! Right! Uppercut! Spinning backfist! Grape goes down and covers up as Kakoullis starts wailing on him! The ref watches the action closely before stepping in and putting a stop to the fight!
