PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Van Damme (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Kint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damme comes to the cage accompanied by Fight to Survive. Roger Kint told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kint has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Damme throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kint's head.
It looks like Roger Kint has been cut.
Kint lands an overhand right.
Damme throws a chopping leg kick but Kint manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Kint throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Damme stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Kint closes the distance and clinches.

Damme lands a nice uppercut.

Kint swings wildly with an uppercut but Damme uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kint digs a right hand underneath Damme's ribcage. Damme let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Damme fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Kint ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kint no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Kint makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kint.
Kint isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Damme stacks Kint on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Damme!
Kint is looking for a sweep.
Kint is still trying to improve position.

Damme has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Kint tries to buck Damme off but Damme is having none of it.
Damme stands up.

Kint feints and as Damme raises his hands in defense, Kint changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kint tries to free his leg and advance position but Damme is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kint advances position into side control!
Kint tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Kint swings around for an armbar but Damme sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kint's guard.

A close round but Roger Kint will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Kint shoots for a takedown but Damme saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Damme tries to work over Kint's front leg with a kick but Kint checks it.
Kint checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Damme avoids the body shot from Kint.

Damme takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Damme thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kint if he has to take too many more of those.

Good leg kick by Damme there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Damme closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and Kint counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Kint wants to work for an arm triangle but Damme is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kint tries to advance to mount but Damme denies him.

Kint thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kint goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Damme has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kint but great work by Damme.

Kint sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kint tries to get to full guard but Damme has control of the leg.
Kint is trying to maintain the position but Damme is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kint is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Damme's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Damme's back!

Damme lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Damme lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Damme is working for a kimura but Kint is defending it quite comfortably.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are battling for position here. Kint manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Van Damme.
I think Kint has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
