Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sami Hyypia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samson Miodek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hyypia comes into the arena with Al Bowlly - Hang out the stars in Indiana blaring out of the sound system. Miodek comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Radioactive kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Sami Hyypia had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Sami Hyypia!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Samson Miodek!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hyypia scores with a shot to the body.
Miodek tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Hyypia tries to bum rush Miodek with a series of wild strikes but Miodek uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A decent looking cross lands there for Hyypia.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Miodek has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Miodek bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Miodek tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Hyypia closes the distance and pushes Miodek back into the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Miodek wants to get back to striking at distance but Hyypia won't allow it.

Miodek has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hyypia is trying to keep an underhook but Miodek manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Miodek looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Hyypia is looking to escape.
Hyypia tries to get to full guard but Miodek has control of the leg.

Hyypia manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Miodek fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hyypia lands a really nice looking cross but Miodek seems unphased.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Miodek misses with a looping right.
Hyypia looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Hyypia avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Miodek pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hyypia takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Sami Hyypia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hyypia misses with a leg kick

and Miodek counters with a takedown into side control.
Hyypia is looking to reverse the position.
Hyypia is pushing Miodek's head away, looking to escape. Miodek manages to hold on to the position though.
Hyypia is letting Miodek control him for a moment.
Hyypia is not content to let Miodek control the position.
Hyypia manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Hyypia is trying to stand.

Miodek looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hyypia avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Miodek.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Miodek thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hyypia's head.
Miodek seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hyypia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hyypia pushes Miodek off looking to stand but Miodek dives back in and keeps control.

Miodek is working for a kimura but Hyypia is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miodek passes to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sami Hyypia will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hyypia thows a leg kick but Miodek checks it

and Miodek counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hyypia's guard now.

Hyypia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Miodek doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Miodek manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hyypia looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Miodek working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hyypia has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Miodek has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Miodek trying to control the position but instead, Hyypia has worked for underhooks and has pushed Miodek into the cage.
Miodek wants a takedown.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Hyypia.
Hyypia is looking to break free of the clinch but Miodek has double underhooks.
Miodek lands with a left to the head.
Miodek stalling in the clinch but Hyypia improves position.
Hyypia lands an uppercut.

Miodek manages to break the clinch.
Hyypia cracks Miodek with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hyypia throws a jab but it's blocked by Miodek.

Hyypia fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Hyypia is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Miodek takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Miodek misses with a wild combination.
Hyypia scores with a hook to the body. Miodek takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Miodek is breathing heavily.
Hyypia misses with a wild body shot.
Hyypia chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Hyypia dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Miodek. That did some damage!

Hyypia sends Miodek crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Hyypia is motioning to the referee to let Miodek up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Hyypia presses Miodek against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Hyypia.

Hyypia lands a nice uppercut.
Miodek is still on wobbly legs! Can Hyypia finish him?
Hyypia lands a big right hand that drops Miodek! The killer instinct kicks in and Hyypia finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Hyypia!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sami Hyypia!
Sami Hyypia is the new super heavyweight champion!
An out of breath and clearly excited Sami Hyypia thanked KO Clothing for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
