PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Uruk Owraa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Holtz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jeff Holtz enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Uruk Owraa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Holtz!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owraa tries a head kick but it misses.
Owraa wants to clinch up but Holtz keeps it at a distance.
Owraa misses with a head kick.
Owraa tries to bum rush Holtz with a series of wild strikes but Holtz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Owraa with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Holtz bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Owraa tries a low kick but Holtz avoids it.
Owraa pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Owraa swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Owraa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Holtz circles away quickly and effectively.
Owraa throws a sloppy head kick and Holtz moves out of range easily.

Holtz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Owraa napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Holtz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Owraa is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The strikes coming from Holtz are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee asks Holtz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Holtz prefers to stall for the moment though.

You can see the frustration on Owraa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Holtz misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Holtz cracks Owraa with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Holtz throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Owraa takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Owraa is working to avoid the ground and pound but Holtz connects with a decent elbow.
Owraa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Holtz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Holtz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Holtz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holtz is looking to take a break and control but Owraa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Holtz moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Owraa takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Holtz is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Owraa will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Holtz lands a decent elbow from side control.

Check out the look on Holtz's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Owraa tries to bench press Holtz off him but Holtz keeps the position.
Holtz connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Owraa some visible discomfort.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holtz looks up at the clock and then as Owraa takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Holtz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Owraa misses with a few strikes there.
Holtz has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Owraa gets caught flat footed, as Holtz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Owraa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Holtz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Holtz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Holtz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Owraa has momentary wrist control but Holtz slips an elbow through the middle.

Owraa seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Holtz wants to control from the top but Owraa keeps moving.

Holtz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Owraa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Holtz lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Owraa looks to land a combination. Holtz sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

No joy there for Holtz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Uruk Owraa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Holtz.

Owraa throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Holtz on the side of the head.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Holtz connects with a nice short shot to Owraa's temple.
