PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Kimble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kimble has chosen Ecstasy Of Gold as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, John Kimble!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Kimble finds it's target.
Kimble throws a leg kick which misses Shields's front leg but catches the back leg as Shields tries to avoid it.
Shields just misses with a punch to the body.
John Kimble seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shields looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Shields slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shields accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shields cracks Kimble with a solid left hand.
Shields wants to control from the top but Kimble keeps moving.
Shields wants to pass the guard but Kimble is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shields loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields advances to half guard.
Shields seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kimble does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kimble is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shields thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kimble's head.
Shields content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shields tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kimble knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kimble is looking to control Shields's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kimble avoid being mounted?

Shields is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kimble is just riding it out for now. Shields eventually gives up the hold.
Shields content to control rather than advance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shields is thwarting Kimble's attempts to control the position.
Kimble pushes Shields off looking to stand but Shields dives back in and keeps control.
Shields seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kimble blocking the ground and pound attempt from Shields.
Shields looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Kimble has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shields is working away from the top position though.

Shields is working for a kimura but Kimble is defending it quite comfortably.
Shields with the ground and pound but Kimble uses the opportunity to regain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Shields dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kimble throws a leg kick but Shields sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Shields swings for the body but Kimble moves out of range.
Shields scores with a nice strike.
Shields has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kimble.
Shields lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.


Kimble is rocked!
Shields displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kimble throws out the jab.
Kimble is still on wobbly legs! Can Shields finish him?

Nick Shields seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
