Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Meat Beater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mookie Magaba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Magaba has chosen Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mookie Magaba was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Meat Beater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mookie Magaba!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magaba looks to land a combination. Beater sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Beater jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Beater throws a leg kick

and Magaba counters with a shoot takedown. Beater fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Magaba forces his way into half guard.
Magaba missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Magaba wants to pass the guard but Beater is defending well.
Magaba is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Magaba wants to work for an arm triangle but Beater is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Magaba is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Magaba looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Magaba wants to pass the guard but Beater is defending well.
Beater is looking for a sweep. Magaba is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Beater is in trouble now - Magaba has advanced to mount!

Magaba goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Beater turns into him and now he's in Magaba's guard.
Magaba wants to improve his position but instead Beater has moved into half guard.
Magaba gets back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Magaba working for a triangle but Beater defends it easily.
Magaba manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Magaba unloads with some shots from mount but Beater bucks and avoids them well.
Beater working to try and regain half guard.
Beater wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Magaba.

Magaba goes for an armbar but Beater turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Beater.

Magaba working for submissions but it's allowed Beater to get to half guard.
Magaba is looking to control Beater's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Magaba avoid being mounted?
Magaba wants to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Magaba wants to sweep but Beater has passed to side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mookie Magaba dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Magaba fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Beater checks it well.
Magaba staying out of range there.

Beater swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Beater misses the jab.
Beater connects with a nice looking jab.
Some bone on bone action there as Magaba checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Beater looks to land a right hand but Magaba moved out of range.
Beater fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Magaba is out of range.
Beater misses with an uppercut. Magaba saw that one coming.
Magaba throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Beater lands a two punch combo.

Beater throws a hook to the side of Magaba's head but Magaba sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Beater throws a jab when Magaba was well out of range.
A combination from Magaba does no damage.
Magaba keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Magaba misses with a few strikes there.
Magaba dodges the punch combination from Beater.
Nice defenses there by Magaba.
Beater tries to score with a low kick but Magaba moves his leg out of the way.
Beater looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Magaba throws out a leg kick but Beater moves out of range and Magaba only half commits.
Magaba lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Magaba.
Beater lands a head shot.

Magaba closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Meat Beater seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Magaba displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Beater throws out the jab.
Magaba throws a solid leg kick but Beater takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Magaba.
A punch combination from Magaba misses.
Beater throws a lazy right hand but Magaba sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Beater misses with a body shot.
Beater lands a nice shot that snaps Magaba's head back.

Magaba throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Beater tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Magaba is in Beater's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Magaba advances position into side control!

Magaba is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Beater is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Beater is pushing Magaba's head away, looking to escape. Magaba manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Magaba wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Beater, who protects the arm well.

Magaba tries for a kimura but Beater is defending well.

Magaba thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
An elbow from Magaba crashes against the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Magaba sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Beater is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Magaba goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Beater rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Magaba's guard! Nice work there by Beater!
Beater is fighting to break Magaba's control of his arms but Magaba is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Beater trying to control the position from guard on top but Magaba is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Magaba working a defensive guard but Beater manages to pass into side control anyway.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Meat Beater will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Beater missing with a left hand there. Magaba was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Beater thows a body shot but no joy.
Magaba misses with a double jab
and Beater counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
No luck for Magaba with that takedown attempt.
Beater misses with a lunging right hand

and Magaba counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Magaba tries to free his leg and advance position but Beater is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Beater utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Magaba passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Magaba goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Beater has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Magaba but great work by Beater.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Magaba gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Magaba is trying to get back to full guard.
Magaba makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Magaba.

Magaba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beater doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Beater manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Magaba wants to sweep here but Beater controlling him for the moment.
Beater wants to get up but he can't break Magaba's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Magaba working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beater doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Beater manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mookie Magaba has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mookie Magaba comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Magaba has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mookie Magaba really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that KO Clothing logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
