PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rigoberto Compton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Shioon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee Shioon told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shioon gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Compton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Compton.
Shioon tries to free his leg and advance position but Compton is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shioon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Compton wants to get back to his feet but Shioon is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Compton has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Shioon is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Compton changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shioon fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Compton shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shioon's guard.
Shioon wants to control the position but Compton says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shioon can do anything to dispel that myth.

Compton stands up from mount. Strange move.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Compton gets caught flat footed, as Shioon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Compton is breathing heavily.

Shioon postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Compton is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shioon, into his guard.
Shioon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Shioon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Compton defends well.
Compton is pushing down on Shioon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shioon is fighting to maintain full guard but Compton has managed to sneak the leg through.

Compton seems to be looking for submissions.
Compton tries to stand but can't do so whilst Shioon controls his leg.
Shioon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Compton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Compton stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rigoberto Compton will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Shioon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
