PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zuese Zorro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Rude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rude has chosen Gunslinger as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zuese Zorro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dominic Rude!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zorro doesn't manage to clinch there - Rude circles away.
Rude throws a hook but Zorro blocks it.

Zorro clinches.
Rude trying to control the position but instead, Zorro has worked for underhooks and has pushed Rude into the cage.
Rude avoiding damage as Zorro throws knees to the body.
Rude tries to work over Zorro's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Rude avoids the elbow strike from Zorro, against the cage.
Zorro with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
With the fighters up against the cage, Zorro throws an elbow but misses.

Rude told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

Zorro stuffs the takedown.
Rude takes a swing at Zorro's ribcage but misses.
Zorro tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rude manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rude cracks Zorro with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Zorro tries a head kick but it misses.
Zorro tries to clinch there but Rude circles away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A left lands for Rude.
Zorro throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rude looks for a takedown but Zorro sprawls well.
Rude missing with a left hand there. Zorro was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Zorro tries to land a front kick but Rude steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Zorro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rude but Rude pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Rude is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Rude counters with a nice body shot.
Rude stuns Zorro with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Zorro takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Zorro gets caught flat footed, as Rude shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Rude is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Zorro avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rude lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Some bone on bone action there as Rude checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Rude sizes up Zorro with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Zorro fails with an attempt to clinch.
Oh Zorro is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zorro misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Zorro seems to have got his legs back now.
Rude bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

A looping hook to the body misses from Rude. Zorro does a little dance to reset his feet.

Rude drops Zorro with a beautiful combination! Zorro stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Rude is looking for the KO!
Dominic Rude seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Zorro.
Zorro lands with a kick to the temple. Rude shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Zorro shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rude sprawls well. Rude wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zorro gets slowly back to his feet.

Rude throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rude thumps Zorro with a low kick.
Zorro takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zorro gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rude to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Zorro looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Zorro is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rude keeps control of the position for the meantime.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rude is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Rude seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Rude stands and throws Zorro's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Zorro regains half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zorro is staying active underneath Rude, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Zorro trying to get back to full guard but Rude takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Zorro is desperately trying to improve his position but Rude has a good base and remains in mount.

Zorro tries to reverse the position but Rude maintains control.
Zorro is working hard here to advance position.
Zorro sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rude looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Let's hope that Rude has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Zorro pushes Rude off looking to stand but Rude dives back in and keeps control.
Rude controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dominic Rude showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Zorro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rude as he jumps to the side.
Rude blocks a head kick by Zorro.
Zorro slips under a jab from Rude.
Zorro wants to clinch.
Rude scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Zorro closes the distance but Rude moves to the side
and Rude counters with a slapping leg kick.
Rude thumps Zorro with a low kick.

Zorro slips a straight right by Rude.
Zuese Zorro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good exchange - Rude coming out on top.
An inside leg kick lands from Rude.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Zorro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rude tries to avoid it but Zorro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rude to the ground. Rude escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rude drops Zorro with a beautiful combination! Zorro stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Rude is looking for the KO!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crack! A monster head kick from Rude and Zorro falls like a tree - timbeeeeeeeeeeerrrr! A highlight reel knockout by Rude!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Dominic Rude!
