Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Melekh David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Waru Kuzuri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waru Kuzuri has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Melekh David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Waru Kuzuri!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Kuzuri.
David shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kuzuri defends it nicely.
Kuzuri ducks down and throws a hook to the body but David moves away.
Kuzuri attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
David uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kuzuri.
Kuzuri misses with a left hand

and David counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kuzuri's guard now.
David pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kuzuri is keeping the position for now.
We've been hearing that David has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Kuzuri is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
David loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kuzuri looking to hit a scissor sweep but David is one step ahead there.

Kuzuri is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and David defends well.

David misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Kuzuri manages to work his way to half guard, despite David's best efforts.
Kuzuri is trying to get back to full guard.
Kuzuri has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. David is working away from the top position though.

Kuzuri is staying active underneath David, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kuzuri is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but David pulls his head out easily.
Kuzuri tries to get to full guard but David has control of the leg.
Kuzuri is pressing down on David's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Kuzuri throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! David escapes and throws Kuzuri's legs to the side, diving into side control!
David is looking to take a break and control but Kuzuri is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kuzuri struggling a bit here.

David swings around for an armbar but Kuzuri sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into David's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
David seems keen to control Kuzuri's posture.
David wants to sweep here but Kuzuri controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Melekh David will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


David looks to score with a jab to the body but Kuzuri is just out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from David misses the target.
David shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kuzuri defends it nicely.

Kuzuri throws a wild body kick that David sees coming a mile off.

Kuzuri swings for the body but David moves out of range.
David jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

David throws the left hand but Kuzuri avoids the punch easily.
David connects with a looping right hand.
David stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Kuzuri displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as David throws out the jab.
David scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kuzuri doesn't seem bothered though.
Kuzuri misses with a low kick.
David is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kuzuri sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Melekh David. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kuzuri will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
David tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Kuzuri on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
A nice inside leg kick there by Kuzuri. That's going to slow David down.
David is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Kuzuri leaves David with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
David throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
David will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kuzuri throws a wild body kick that David sees coming a mile off.
No joy there for David, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kuzuri connects with a body shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
David misses with a hook. Kuzuri ducked under it nicely.

David drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kuzuri looking to hit a scissor sweep but David is one step ahead there.
David sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kuzuri's guard.

David wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kuzuri keeps working.

Kuzuri is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but David pulls his head out easily.
Melekh David overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kuzuri makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kuzuri.

Kuzuri looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
David stands and throws Kuzuri's legs to the side, diving into side control.
David working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Kuzuri is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
David is chipping away with strikes.
David passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Kuzuri!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Melekh David dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kuzuri tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but David was well out of range. Poor timing from Kuzuri.
Kuzuri avoids a kick to the body.
Kuzuri throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
David lunges at Kuzuri with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kuzuri's hand.
David throws a push kick but Kuzuri slaps the foot to one side.
Kuzuri misses with a jab to the body

and David counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kuzuri can't keep his opponent in guard - David advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

David is trying to work for a kimura but Kuzuri is defending well.
Kuzuri is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
David trying to pass the guard but Kuzuri defending well.
Kuzuri wants to improve his position but David is controlling well.
David passes to side control.
Kuzuri dodges the ground and pound from David.
Kuzuri gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Kuzuri works his way to full guard. Good work.
David trying to control but Kuzuri is working from the bottom.
Kuzuri controls David momentarily but David frees himself.
Waru Kuzuri has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kuzuri isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. David stacks Kuzuri on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by David!
David works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Kuzuri tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
David landing punches.
David fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Kuzuri is looking to improve his position but David isn't that keen on the idea.

David lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Kuzuri hang on?


It looks like Waru Kuzuri has been cut.
Kuzuri taking shots to the head.
Kuzuri is desperately trying to improve his position but David has a good base and remains in mount.
Kuzuri wants to control but David is having none of it.
David prevents Kuzuri from getting the reversal.
David in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Kuzuri is trying to escape the mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

David jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Kuzuri is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Kuzuri and David has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Kuzuri sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kuzuri actively working from the bottom here.
David perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
David lands with a punch from half guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
David looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Melekh David showed his dominance in that final round.
Well David has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Melekh David misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
