PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Voss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adrian Tanner Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tanner Jr has chosen LL Cool J - It's Time for War as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Voss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adrian Tanner Jr!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tanner Jr gets caught flat footed, as Voss shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Voss drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Voss jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Tanner Jr is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tanner Jr can't keep his opponent in guard - Voss advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Tanner Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Voss wants to free his trapped foot but Tanner Jr is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Voss trying to control the pace.
Voss is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Voss works his way into full mount!

Voss goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Tanner Jr turns into him and now he's in Voss's guard.
Voss wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Voss wants to stand and escape but Tanner Jr is having none of it.
Voss has control of Tanner Jr's left arm, preventing Tanner Jr from doing any damage.
Voss has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Voss's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Scott Voss has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Voss changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tanner Jr looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee asks Voss politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Voss prefers to stall for the moment though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tanner Jr struggling a bit here.

Tanner Jr prevents Voss from improving position.
Tanner Jr is looking to reverse the position.

Voss is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tanner Jr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Tanner Jr looks to move to half guard but instead Voss has passed into mount! Damn!
Voss controlling from mount.
Tanner Jr told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Voss will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Voss landing strikes, looking to finish!
Voss content just to control the position here.
Tanner Jr taking shots to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Voss is in the full mount, landing strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Voss dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Tanner Jr lands a front kick.

Voss darts in and clinches Tanner Jr up against the cage.
Tanner Jr jumps guard but Voss stands there with Tanner Jr around his waist. Tanner Jr gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Voss breaks the clinch.
Voss throws a right hand that Tanner Jr ducks under and follows up with a left that Tanner Jr also avoids with ease.
Sloppy strikes from Voss. Those never looked like landing.

Tanner Jr tries to keep at a distance but Voss has taken the fight into the clinch.

Voss jumps guard and drags Tanner Jr to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Voss is looking for a triangle but Tanner Jr pushes his legs off easily.
Tanner Jr throwing strikes but missing.
Voss seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tanner Jr tries to stand but Voss is controlling from the bottom.
Voss wants to stand but Tanner Jr is controlling the position.
Voss looking for a sweep. Not yet Voss, not yet.
Tanner Jr looking to sit in guard and control but Voss gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Tanner Jr controls Voss momentarily but Voss frees himself.

Voss showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Voss works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Voss tries to stand but can't do so whilst Tanner Jr controls his leg.
Tanner Jr pushes Voss off looking to stand but Voss dives back in and keeps control.
Tanner Jr is breathing heavily.
Voss is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Voss escapes and gets back to his feet.
Voss keeps the fight on the outside.
Tanner Jr with a lazy takedown attempt

and Voss counters by moving into the clinch.

Voss manages to break the clinch.
Tanner Jr tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Voss counters by clinching up.
Tanner Jr avoiding damage as Voss throws knees to the body.

Tanner Jr jumps guard and drags Voss to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Voss has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tanner Jr is proving hard to escape from.
Voss connects with a couple of short punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Voss stays in close to Tanner Jr's body and controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Scott Voss.

Voss closes the distance and pushes Tanner Jr back into the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Voss lands with a short shot to the head.
Voss blocks the elbow strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Voss gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Tanner Jr regains guard.
Voss is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Voss pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tanner Jr is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Voss dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Voss moves into the clinch.
Tanner Jr prevents Voss from breaking the clinch.
Tanner Jr tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Voss smiles and moves away.
Tanner Jr misses with a takedown

and Voss counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Voss's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Voss seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Voss stands and throws Tanner Jr's legs to the side, diving into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Voss is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tanner Jr has escaped the position, nice work there.
Tanner Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Tanner Jr is trying to control Voss's posture but Voss avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee asks Voss politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Voss prefers to stall for the moment though.
Tanner Jr on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Voss lands a nice forearm strike.

Voss wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tanner Jr, who protects the arm well.
Voss staying calm.
Voss tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Voss lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Voss working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Voss scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Tanner Jr to see if he's OK.
Voss wants to stand but Tanner Jr has his arm trapped.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Voss just content to control the position.
Tanner Jr tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Voss easily slips into full mount!
Scott Voss overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Voss lands with some strikes.
Tanner Jr takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Voss looking to control and managing it successfully.

Voss wants to finish this one by submission but Tanner Jr is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Voss.
Voss wants to stand but Tanner Jr is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Voss tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Adrian Tanner Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Voss has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
