PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robbie Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robbie Balboa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Balboa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A telegraphed right hand from Jones misses the target.
Marcus Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Balboa counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Jones down! Balboa is looking to finish but Jones is intelligently defending himself.

Jones is rocked!
Balboa tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.
Oh Jones is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Balboa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones controls Balboa momentarily but Balboa frees himself.
Jones seems to have got his legs back now.
Balboa has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.

Jones manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Balboa chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jones can pounce on him.
Jones misses with a wild body shot.
Balboa checks a leg kick nicely.
Jones misses with a hook. Balboa ducked under it nicely.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Balboa throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Balboa dodges the punch combination from Jones.
Balboa connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circle momentarily. Balboa darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Balboa lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Jones falls backwards - clearly groggy! Balboa dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robbie Balboa!
