Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bernie Hart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
23 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Povetkin!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hart misses with a body shot.
Hart showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Povetkin.
Hart misses with an uppercut. Povetkin saw that one coming.
Povetkin feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hart's calf.
Decent striking displayed by Hart there.
Povetkin looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Povetkin instigates a clinch.
Povetkin tries to break the clinch but Hart is controlling the position.
Hart manages to break the clinch.
Hart drives through and clinches with Povetkin against the ropes.
Povetkin breaks from the clinch.
Hart lands a head shot.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hart lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hart tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Povetkin was well out of range. Poor timing from Hart.
Hart scores with a nice body kick.
Povetkin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Povetkin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Povetkin thows a body shot but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Hart avoids the body shot from Povetkin.
Hart swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Povetkin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Hart thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Povetkin if he has to take too many more of those.
Hart connects with a beautiful left hand that drops Povetkin onto his butt! Povetkin bounces straight back up though - he's OK. After the ref checks him out, we're back to the action.
Povetkin is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hart fails in his attempt to clinch.
Povetkin walks into a straight right hand and goes down! Hart rushes to a neutral corner so the count doesn't get delayed but Povetkin has made it back to his feet on 5. He's OK so we're back to the action.
Povetkin is still on wobbly legs! Can Hart finish him?
Povetkin blocks a jab.
Povetkin seems to have recovered his senses.
Hart throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hart connects with a stiff jab that staggers Povetkin - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Bernie Hart!
