PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Danny Ochoa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mayuri Tatsuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ochoa comes to the cage accompanied by Ice Cube - I Rep That West. Tatsuki has chosen Norther - Released as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Ochoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Mayuri Tatsuki!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice combination there by Tatsuki.
Tatsuki comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Ochoa pushes Tatsuki up against the cage in a clinch.

Tatsuki lands a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Tatsuki postures up.

Ochoa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tatsuki moves away.

Ochoa steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tatsuki.
Ochoa tries to bum rush Tatsuki with a series of wild strikes but Tatsuki uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ochoa throws out a powerful jab.
Ochoa wants to slow Tatsuki down by chopping away at his legs.
Tatsuki closes the distance and clinches up with Ochoa, looking for a takedown. Tatsuki pushes Ochoa against the cage but Ochoa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tatsuki steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ochoa.
Danny Ochoa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tatsuki moves away from the strike by Ochoa.

Tatsuki connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Ochoa lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
A jab from Tatsuki misses.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ochoa thuds his right hand into Tatsuki's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Tatsuki throws a looping overhand right but Ochoa ducks down to avoid it.

Tatsuki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Ochoa is looking to improve his position.
Tatsuki scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Tatsuki slips a nice elbow through Ochoa's hands, connecting with Ochoa's forehead.
Tatsuki not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Tatsuki has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tatsuki is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Tatsuki is trying to control the action in half guard but Ochoa is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Tatsuki is looking for a kimura but Ochoa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tatsuki to get the leverage.

Tatsuki misses with a head shot. Ochoa uses the momentum to regain guard.

Tatsuki passes Ochoa's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Well, if Tatsuki is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mayuri Tatsuki dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tatsuki tries to score with some ground and pound. Ochoa controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Ochoa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tatsuki wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mayuri Tatsuki has got the better of the ground game so far.
The strikes coming from Tatsuki are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

You can see the frustration on Ochoa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ochoa tries to bench press Tatsuki off him but Tatsuki keeps the position.

Ochoa is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Tatsuki is controlling him well.
Ochoa is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tatsuki off and has taken his back!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Ochoa has the hooks in. Tatsuki is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Ochoa is trying to stick to Tatsuki's back but Tatsuki is turning into Ochoa. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Ochoa's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Tatsuki.
Tatsuki won't allow Ochoa to get back to his feet.
Tatsuki tries to free his leg and advance position but Ochoa is retaining full guard.

Tatsuki's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mayuri Tatsuki hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Ochoa takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Tatsuki fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Ochoa checks it well.
Mayuri Tatsuki seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tatsuki is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ochoa sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ochoa lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ochoa dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tatsuki. That did some damage!
Ochoa looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tatsuki.
Danny Ochoa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mayuri Tatsuki.

Tatsuki shoots in and bounces Ochoa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mayuri Tatsuki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Ochoa throws a nice looking combination but Tatsuki bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Tatsuki moves into the clinch.
Ochoa misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Ochoa tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Ochoa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Tatsuki clinches.
Ochoa tries to break free but Tatsuki pushes him back against the cage.

Ochoa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ochoa misses with a body kick.
Ochoa misses the shot to the body.
Tatsuki ducks right into an uppercut from Ochoa.
Tatsuki shoots in but no luck this time.

Tatsuki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ochoa's waist but Ochoa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tatsuki off to one side.
Ochoa pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Tatsuki back to the cage. Ochoa follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Tatsuki cracks Ochoa with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Tatsuki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ochoa tries to avoid it but Tatsuki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ochoa to the ground. Ochoa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Danny Ochoa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mayuri Tatsuki.

Tatsuki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ochoa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tatsuki swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ochoa enables Tatsuki to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ochoa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Tatsuki postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tatsuki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Tatsuki won't allow Ochoa to sweep him here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Tatsuki dives in and scores a takedown into Ochoa's guard.

Tatsuki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Tatsuki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Danny Ochoa just wasn't active enough.
Ochoa misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ochoa looks to land a combination but Tatsuki avoids it well.
Tatsuki shoots in but Ochoa avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ochoa lets loose with a powerful body kick. Tatsuki will feel that in the morning.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tatsuki throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tatsuki keeps the fight on the outside.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Danny Ochoa.
I think Tatsuki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
