PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Fitzsimmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salath Sar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jim Fitzsimmons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Salath Sar!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sar throws a hook but Fitzsimmons blocks it.
Fitzsimmons throws a body punch but Sar moves out of range.
Fitzsimmons swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Fitzsimmons connects with a body shot.
Nice body punch from Fitzsimmons.
Sar lands a jab to the head.


It looks like Jim Fitzsimmons has been cut.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sar.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Sar has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Sar goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Fitzsimmons turns into him and now he's in Sar's guard.
Fitzsimmons wants to pass the guard but Sar is keeping the position.
Fitzsimmons is standing up over Sar. Sar looks to escape but Fitzsimmons dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fitzsimmons trying to control the action but Sar is working from the bottom.
Sar tries to bench press Fitzsimmons off him but Fitzsimmons keeps the position.
Fitzsimmons remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Fitzsimmons's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jim Fitzsimmons just wasn't active enough.
Sar dives in for a single leg takedown but Fitzsimmons sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sar avoiding damage as Fitzsimmons throws knees to the body.

Fitzsimmons lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Sar keeps control of Fitzsimmons as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sar blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Fitzsimmons wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Fitzsimmons breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fitzsimmons throws out a loose jab but Sar uses good head movement to avoid it.
Fitzsimmons throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A telegraphed right hand from Fitzsimmons misses the target.

Fitzsimmons just misses with a punch to the body.
Fitzsimmons throws the left hand but Sar avoids the punch easily.
Fitzsimmons scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sar doesn't seem bothered though.
Fitzsimmons throws a hook to the side of Sar's head but Sar sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sar takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Sar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Fitzsimmons as he avoids it easily.
Good standup being displayed there by Fitzsimmons as he connects with a hook.
Sar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fitzsimmons sprawls well. Fitzsimmons wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sar gets slowly back to his feet.
Jim Fitzsimmons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salath Sar.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sar throws a shot from downtown. Fitzsimmons moves away and avoids it.
A left lands for Fitzsimmons.
Sar closes the distance and clinches up with Fitzsimmons, looking for a takedown. Sar pushes Fitzsimmons against the cage but Fitzsimmons circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A jab from Fitzsimmons does it's job there.
Horrible takedown by Sar or perhaps it was just good defense by Fitzsimmons which made him look bad.

Sar shoots in but Fitzsimmons avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Good exchange - Fitzsimmons coming out on top.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jab, jab by Fitzsimmons - just one landing.


It looks like Salath Sar has been cut.
Sar shoots in but Fitzsimmons avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sar fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Fitzsimmons dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Sar is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sar fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sar is still on wobbly legs! Can Fitzsimmons finish him?
Fitzsimmons rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sar seems to have recovered his senses.
Sar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fitzsimmons circles away.
Jim Fitzsimmons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salath Sar.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Fitzsimmons.
Salath Sar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fitzsimmons takes a swing at Sar's ribcage but misses.
Fitzsimmons slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Fitzsimmons throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fitzsimmons swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Fitzsimmons fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sar.
Fitzsimmons throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sar takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Jim Fitzsimmons is winning the standup battle so far.

Sar shoots for a takedown but Fitzsimmons saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fitzsimmons moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Nice straight punches there by Fitzsimmons. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Fitzsimmons.

Fitzsimmons looks to throw the jab but Sar is out of range.
Sar shoots in looking for a takedown but Fitzsimmons manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sar drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sar looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fitzsimmons is fending him off so far but Sar persists. Nope, Fitzsimmons circles away and we're back to standing.
Sar is breathing heavily.
Sar looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sar.
Fitzsimmons finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Fitzsimmons throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Sar has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.

Fitzsimmons jabs Sar to the body, keeping him at a distance.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sar misses with an uppercut. Fitzsimmons saw that one coming.
Sar moves out of range as Fitzsimmons strikes.
Fitzsimmons misses with a double jab.
Sar might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Fitzsimmons wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Sar tries to move into range but Fitzsimmons moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Sar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fitzsimmons.
Fitzsimmons lands with a hook. Sar tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Sar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fitzsimmons but Fitzsimmons pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fitzsimmons drops Sar with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Sar looks back up at him and smiles so Fitzsimmons waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Fitzsimmons throws a right and a left that both miss.

Fitzsimmons throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sar on the side of the head.

Sar gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sar fails with the takedown
and Fitzsimmons counters with a huge left! Sar is in big trouble! He's backing up but Fitzsimmons isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Sar from any more damage. A dominating finish by Fitzsimmons!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Fitzsimmons!
Our winner, Jim Fitzsimmons, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
