PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Archie Atkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Stricket (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Archie Atkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Stricket!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stricket closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Stricket wants to take a breather but Atkins is having none of it.
Atkins is trying to stand back up but Stricket is controlling him
Stricket sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Atkins defending well though.
Stricket controlling the action here.
Stricket is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Matt Stricket.
Stricket stuffs the takedown.

Stricket shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Atkins's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stricket's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Stricket would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Stricket looking to sit in guard and control but Atkins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Atkins looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Stricket trying to control the position.
Atkins really is a fat lump.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Matt Stricket hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Stricket scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Stricket takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stricket tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Still in half guard, Stricket seems content to control.
Stricket wants to pass to mount but Atkins is defending the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Stricket was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Stricket shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Atkins napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Stricket remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Stricket is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Atkins knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Stricket looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stricket wants to stand but Atkins has his arm trapped.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Stricket dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Stricket shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Stricket was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Atkins can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stricket goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Atkins has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Stricket but great work by Atkins.
Stricket manages to get back to half guard.
Stricket works his way to full guard. Good work.
Atkins wants to get up but he can't break Stricket's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Atkins is stalling in the full guard.
Stricket is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Atkins is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stricket preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Stricket is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Atkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Stricket is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Archie Atkins has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Stricket gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Atkins jumps into guard, dragging Stricket to the mat.
Stricket is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Stricket wants to get up but he can't break Atkins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Stricket slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Matt Stricket.

Atkins manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stricket on his heels. He'll look to pass Stricket's guard now, I'm sure.
Stricket looking to hit a scissor sweep but Atkins is one step ahead there.
Stricket lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Stricket wants to stand and escape but Atkins is having none of it.
Atkins might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Stricket has his foot on Atkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Atkins works his way back into a safe position though.

Stricket being controlled here, momentarily.

Atkins stands and steps away. Stricket gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Stricket closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Stricket wants to stand but Atkins has his arm trapped.
Stricket in side control, throwing shots but Atkins defends.
Stricket working the head and body with strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Atkins parries the strikes from Stricket easily there. Stricket is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Atkins to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stricket tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Stricket trying to control the position but Atkins is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Stricket showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Stricket has closed the distance and engaged Atkins in a clinch.
Atkins jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stricket walks away with a smile on his face. Atkins gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Stricket gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Atkins jumps into guard, dragging Stricket to the mat.

Stricket drops back, looking for a kneebar! Atkins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Atkins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Atkins!
Stricket is looking for a sweep.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Stricket is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Atkins is thwarting Stricket's attempts to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stricket wants to get back to full guard.
Atkins stops Stricket from getting back to his feet.
Atkins sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Stricket preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Archie Atkins.
Stricket scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Archie Atkins has been cut.

Atkins gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Stricket controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stricket wants to control from the top but Atkins keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Matt Stricket wasn't active enough on the ground.

Stricket closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Atkins blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Atkins pulls guard.
Stricket throwing strikes but missing.
Stricket wanted to stand there but Atkins had control of the position.
Stricket trying to control but Atkins is working from the bottom.
Stricket looking to sit in guard and control but Atkins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Atkins wants to control from the top but Stricket keeps moving.

Stricket throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Stricket wants to sweep here but Atkins controlling him for the moment.
Stricket is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Stricket wants to lay and pray for a moment but Atkins keeps working.
Archie Atkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matt Stricket is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stricket with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Stricket comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Stricket has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
