Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Volkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spiral Stairs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Volkov's entrance music is Hindabuilding. A fine choice. Spiral Stairs has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkov lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Volkov scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Stairs is looking to reverse the position.
Stairs struggling a bit here.
Stairs is looking for a sweep.
Stairs is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Volkov's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Volkov looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Stairs tries to get to full guard but Volkov has control of the leg.
Stairs moves into full guard.

Stairs throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stairs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Volkov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stairs is pulling down on Volkov's head. It's preventing any offense from Volkov, at least for the moment.
Stairs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Stairs controls Volkov momentarily but Volkov frees himself.
Volkov looking to sit in guard and control but Stairs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Stairs drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stairs jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stairs is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Volkov has managed to free his arm - good work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stairs takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Volkov wants to control but Stairs is having none of it.
Stairs lands a nice shot to the head.

Stairs is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Volkov has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Volkov is looking to improve his position but Stairs isn't that keen on the idea.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Volkov lands a really nice looking cross but Stairs seems unphased.
Volkov throws a right and a left that Stairs avoids nicely.
Volkov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Volkov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Stairs's guard.

Stairs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Volkov is aware though and is defending well.

Stairs is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Stairs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Volkov is working away from the top position though.

Volkov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Stairs wants to control but Volkov is keeping him busy.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Stairs working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Stairs is controlling the pace.
Stairs is looking to advance position but Volkov won't allow it.
Volkov looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Stairs is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Stairs is breathing heavily.
Stairs wants to pass the guard but Volkov is defending well.

Volkov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stairs's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stairs's back!
Volkov doesn't have the hooks in and Stairs manages to turn into his guard.
Stairs stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Volkov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stairs's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Stairs distracts Volkov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Stairs seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Volkov has his foot on Stairs's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stairs works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spiral Stairs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Stairs bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Stairs wants to lay and pray for a moment but Volkov keeps working.

Stairs tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stairs has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Volkov takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Stairs wants to control but Volkov is keeping him busy.

Volkov has hold of Stairs's hands but Stairs slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Stairs is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Volkov!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stairs is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Stairs is taking a breather. Volkov says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
