Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Katsuro Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ninja Monk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monk has chosen On To The Next One as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Katsuro Sato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ninja Monk!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monk misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sato has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Monk finds it's way round the side to connect with Sato's head.

and Sato counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Monk is trying to control the position but Sato postures up.
Sato makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Sato won't allow Monk to sweep him here.
Monk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sato postures up in Monk's guard and throws a big left but Monk blocks it.
Monk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sato has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Monk pulls Sato in close to prevent any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've been hearing that Sato has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Sato stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Monk swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sato stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Monk swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Monk wants to improve his position but instead Sato has moved into half guard.
Monk wants to control but Sato is keeping busy.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sato not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Monk is looking for a sweep. Sato is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sato seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Monk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Monk makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Monk.
Monk is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Monk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sato keeps working.
Monk is taking a breather. Sato says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Katsuro Sato will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sato loads up on a big right hand but Monk slips the punch.
Sato on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Monk misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sato.
Monk pushes Sato away with a front kick.
Monk cracks a nice hook into Sato's ribs.

and Sato counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Monk!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sato throws some wild stikes that Monk manages to avoid easily.

Sato is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Monk defends it well.

Sato is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Sato ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Monk moves away.

Sato is stalling here. Monk is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sato seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Monk has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Monk got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sato has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Monk has managed to get both his arms back between Sato's legs - danger averted.
Monk chips away with some ground and pound.
Monk not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sato, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
