PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Urai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sotokorin De Brux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Urai comes to the cage accompanied by Sever the Wicked. De Brux comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Katatonia - Saw You Drown (Vocal Cover) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Sam Urai has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Urai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sotokorin De Brux!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Urai there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Urai closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. De Brux quickly recovers to half guard.
Urai wants to lay and pray for a moment but De Brux keeps working.
Urai trying to pass the guard but De Brux defending well.
Urai is working hard here to advance position.

Urai is sneakily working for an arm triangle but De Brux sees it coming and defends easily.
Urai throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Urai is working for a submission of some sort.
Urai is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for De Brux!

De Brux defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Urai.
De Brux is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Urai throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
De Brux is squirming around, avoiding Urai's attempts to control the action.
De Brux is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Urai sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Urai tries to control but De Brux wriggling away.

Urai seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but De Brux is holding on tight.
De Brux has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Urai looking to break De Brux's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. De Brux remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Urai will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
De Brux looking very determined here, making life difficult for Urai.

Urai has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

De Brux showing good submission defense here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Urai on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Urai tests De Brux's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Urai throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
De Brux lands a head shot.
De Brux tries a head kick but it misses.
Sam Urai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Urai throws out a powerful jab.
Urai looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A jab from De Brux does it's job there.
Urai scores with a push kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Urai just misses with a punch to the body.
Good exchange - De Brux coming out on top.
De Brux stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and De Brux wants it to stay on the feet.

Urai shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Urai wants to control but De Brux is keeping him busy.

Urai trying to advance position but De Brux counters by regaining guard.
Urai looking to pass the guard.
Urai pushes down on De Brux's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Urai tries to pass to full mount but De Brux defends it.

Urai stops De Brux from getting back to his feet.
Urai is looking to take a break and control but De Brux is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Urai uses his free foot to push down on De Brux's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for De Brux.
Urai trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De Brux really wants to buck Urai off and get back to his feet.

Urai moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, De Brux has worked his arm free - good work by De Brux!

Urai is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, De Brux has escaped the position, nice work there.

Urai swings around for an armbar but De Brux sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Urai's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Urai is looking for a triangle but De Brux pushes his legs off easily.

Urai working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because De Brux has passed into half guard!
Urai is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of De Brux's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take De Brux's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Urai dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


De Brux throws a big shot that misses.
De Brux's coach down at Team Hopkins was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on De Brux's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
The fighters circling - De Brux throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Urai with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling De Brux to score with a decent uppercut.
De Brux uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Urai.
De Brux takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
De Brux ducks under a wild hook from Urai.
Urai throws an uppercut from half a mile away. De Brux sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Urai throws a sloppy body shot
and De Brux counters with a low kick, right behind Urai 's knee.
De Brux tries a head kick but it misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from De Brux enables Urai to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. De Brux manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
De Brux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Urai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Urai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. De Brux swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Urai passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Urai thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Urai in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... De Brux is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sam Urai!
