PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wai Man Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Marsden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marsden comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Shot to the Double Glock by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of London, Brandon Marsden!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marsden throws an off balance right hand

and Li counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Li wants to control from the top but Marsden keeps moving.
Li trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Marsden is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Marsden keeping moving, preventing Li from controlling successfully.
Li has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Marsden wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Li controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Marsden keeping moving, preventing Li from controlling successfully.
Li looking to sit in guard and control but Marsden gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Li is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marsden defends well.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Marsden is working Li over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Li sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Li makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Li.
Li wants to sweep here but Marsden controlling him for the moment.

Li has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marsden is working away from the top position though.

Li is trying to get back to full guard.

Li is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Marsden pulls his head out easily.
Marsden lands with a punch from half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Li gets back to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wai Man Li dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Li connects with a body shot.
Marsden waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Li.
Li takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Marsden gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Li lands a jab to Marsden's midsection.
Li throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Brandon Marsden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Li looks to throw the jab but Marsden is out of range.

Marsden rushes Li and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Marsden misses with a hook to the ribs.

Marsden manages to break the clinch.
Marsden connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Marsden throws a hook but Li avoids it easily.
Marsden has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Li finds it's way round the side to connect with Marsden's head.
Marsden throws a lazy uppercut
and Li counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

No joy there for Li, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A slapping leg kick lands for Marsden.
Li misses with a body shot.
Marsden shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Li pinned against the cage. Li gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Li just misses with a punch to the body.
Li shoots in and drives through. Marsden sprawls well.
Marsden throws an off balance right hand
and Li counters with a stiff right hand.
Marsden throws a head kick but Li moves out of range.
Marsden misses with an uppercut.
A looping hook to the body misses from Li. Marsden does a little dance to reset his feet.
Li misses with a takedown attempt - Marsden sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Li is looking to wear down Marsden with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Li throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Marsden pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Li misses the shot to the body.
Li shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Marsden sprawls well. Marsden wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Li gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wai Man Li. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Marsden shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Li as he avoids it easily.
A nice leg kick lands there from Marsden.

Marsden just misses with a punch to the body.

Marsden closes the distance and clinches.

Marsden breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Marsden throws a nice outside leg kick.

Marsden throws a looping overhand right but Li ducks down to avoid it.
Marsden dives in and grabs Li's left leg, looking for a takedown. Li pushes down on Marsden's head and hops out.
Marsden lands a really nice looking cross but Li seems unphased.
Li uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marsden.
Marsden misses with an uppercut. Li saw that one coming.
Marsden's corner calls for a 1-2. Marsden obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Li scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Li cracks Marsden with a big right hand but Marsden just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Marsden felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Li in side control, throwing shots but Marsden defends.
Li is putting a hurting on Marsden here, landing some big shots from side control.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Li gets to mount! Marsden was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Li with shots to the head and body - Marsden looks very uncomfortable down there.
Marsden holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Li tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Wai Man Li overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Some wild striking there from Marsden.
Li chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Marsden can pounce on him.
Li swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Marsden needs to keep his hands up - Li had a free shot at his head there.
Marsden throws a chopping leg kick but Li manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Marsden tests Li's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Li swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Li takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Li shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Marsden sprawls well. Marsden wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Li gets slowly back to his feet.

Marsden looks to throw the jab but Li is out of range.

Li takes a swing at Marsden's ribcage but misses.
Li fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marsden avoids it really well and circles away.
Marsden uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Li.
Marsden scores with a kick to the body.
Li misses the shot to the body.
Marsden tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Li fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Marsden manages to avoid it.

and Li counters with a straight right hand.
A jab lands there for Marsden.

Li shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Li was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Li throwing strikes but Marsden manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Li is looking to regain half guard here but Marsden keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wai Man Li showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Li, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
