The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Benko clinches with his opponent.
Benko can't find room to land a body shot as Eikmeyer controls the action.
Eikmeyer lands with a light punch inside.

Eikmeyer gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Benko seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Eikmeyer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Eikmeyer has gone for a leg lock! Benko slips out almost immediately though and dives into Eikmeyer's guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vojtech Benko.

Eikmeyer drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Benko gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Benko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Eikmeyer pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Benko counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Eikmeyer's guard now.

Benko slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Benko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Eikmeyer did well to prevent Benko getting side control.

Benko connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Eikmeyer some visible discomfort.
Eikmeyer takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Eikmeyer tries to improve position but can't.
Benko wants to lay and pray for a moment but Eikmeyer keeps working.
Eikmeyer is looking to regain half guard here but Benko keeps moving and retains side control.
Eikmeyer is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Benko off and has taken his back!

Eikmeyer has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Benko has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

After the fight, Mario Eikmeyer was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
