Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Nichols (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trent Hangman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Trent Hangman enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Scott Nichols!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Trent Hangman!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hangman looks to land a combination but Nichols avoids it well.
Hangman connects with a right hand. Nichols shakes it off.
Nichols looks to land a left hand but Hangman moved out of range nicely.
Nichols throws a big shot that misses.
Nichols walks into a left hand.
Nichols throws a jab when Hangman was well out of range.
Hangman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nichols thows a left - swing and a miss!
Nichols takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Hangman lands a two punch combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hangman pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Nichols throws a lazy uppercut

so Hangman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hangman won't allow Nichols to sweep him here.
Hangman sitting in guard here, content to control.
Nichols has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Nichols is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hangman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

We're going to have a standup here because Scott Nichols wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Nichols misses the jab.
Nichols jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Hangman lands with a hook. Nichols tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Hangman ducks under a wild hook from Nichols.
Nichols is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hangman.
Hangman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hangman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A telegraphed right hand from Nichols misses the target.

Nichols cracks Hangman with an uppercut from hell and Hangman crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Nichols's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nichols advances to half guard.
Nichols seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hangman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nichols is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hangman is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Nichols wants to pass to mount but Hangman is defending the position.
Nichols prevents Hangman from improving his position.
Hangman trying to control but Nichols postures up.
Nichols trying to control the action but Hangman is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Scott Nichols wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Nichols has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hangman finds it's way round the side to connect with Nichols's head.
Hangman shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Nichols misses with a straight left.
Nichols throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Nichols misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hangman.

Nichols cracks Hangman with an uppercut from hell and Hangman crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Nichols's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!


Hangman is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nichols wants to control from the top but Hangman keeps moving.
Hangman is still in real trouble! Can Nichols finish him?
Hangman lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Nichols!
Hangman thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Nichols regains half guard.
Hangman trying to control from half guard but Nichols is working away.
Hangman seems to have recovered his senses.
Hangman tries to pass to full mount but Nichols defends it.
Nichols is trying to control but can't.
Nichols keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hangman is pressing down on Nichols's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nichols is holding on for now.
Hangman stops Nichols from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nichols won't allow Hangman to pass to mount.
Hangman is controlling the pace.
Let's hope that Hangman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Trent Hangman has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hangman ducks under a wild hook from Nichols.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hangman slips under a jab from Nichols.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Nichols dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Nichols throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hangman keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Nichols.
Nichols throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Hangman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nichols's guard now.
Nichols is trying to keep Hangman in close.

Hangman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nichols has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hangman has managed to get both his arms back between Nichols's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hangman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Nichols here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Nichols working a defensive guard but Hangman manages to pass into side control anyway.
Nichols can't do much from the bottom here.

Nichols takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Nichols trying to control but Hangman flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Nichols is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Trent Hangman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nichols is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Nichols defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Hangman is pulling down on Nichols's head. It's preventing any offense from Nichols, at least for the moment.
Hangman wants to sweep here but Nichols controlling him for the moment.
Hangman controls Nichols momentarily but Nichols frees himself.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Hangman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nichols defends it easily.
Nichols stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hangman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hangman is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Nichols frees his head nicely. Oh but Hangman has switched to an armbar! Nichols is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
