PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harvey Specter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Lok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lok is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Butthole Surfers - Pepper. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Harvey Specter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damien Lok!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Specter takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Lok scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Lok fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Specter manages to avoid it.
Specter misses the shot to the body.
Lok is looking to clinch.
Specter blocks a low kick nicely.

Lok is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Specter's half guard.
Specter is looking for a sweep. Lok is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Specter keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Lok thows a huge punch but Specter dodges it nicely.
Lok prevents Specter from improving his position.
Specter is trying to maintain the position but Lok is very close to passing his half guard.

Lok throws a strike but Specter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lok is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Specter is aware though and is defending well.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lok is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Specter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Specter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Lok has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lok keeping moving, preventing Specter from controlling successfully.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Lok looking to hit a scissor sweep but Specter is one step ahead there.
Lok trying to keep a closed guard but Specter is proving a slippery customer.
Lok will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Specter keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Specter misses with a kick to the body.

Specter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lok to the mat! Lok manages to get full guard.

Lok working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Specter has passed into half guard!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Damien Lok dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Specter bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Lok moves in looking to clinch but Specter pushes him off.
Damien Lok seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Specter is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Lok.
Specter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A punch lands to the side of Specter 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Lok throws a head kick but Specter moves out of range.
Specter gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lok.

Specter is looking to control Lok's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Specter avoid being mounted?

Lok tries to free his leg and advance position but Specter is retaining full guard.

Specter wants to stand up but Lok is controlling him.

We're going to have a standup here because Harvey Specter wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Specter closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Lok shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Lok looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Specter parries the strikes from Lok easily there. Lok is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Specter to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

You can see the frustration on Specter's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Lok showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Specter checks a leg kick.
Lok tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Specter defends well and Lok ends up having to push Specter into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Lok tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Specter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lok comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Specter closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lok's guard.
Specter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Lok bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Specter's guard.

Specter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lok doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lok manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I would just about give that final round to Damien Lok.
Well Lok has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
