PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stanley Collier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristian Vasile (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cristian Vasile told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Stanley Collier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cristian Vasile!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Collier throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Vasile counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Vasile.
Vasile leaning against his opponent.

Vasile's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A chopping leg kick lands by Vasile.
Collier throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Vasile fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Collier sprawls well initially but Vasile persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
It looks like Vasile is going to stand back up.
Vasile throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Vasile is trying to control the action in half guard but Collier is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Vasile with the ground and pound but Collier uses the opportunity to regain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vasile got a little sloppy there for a moment and Collier has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vasile has managed to get both his arms back between Collier's legs - danger averted.

Vasile decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Collier, up you get!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Cristian Vasile wasn't active enough on the ground.
Vasile pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vasile misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Vasile shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Collier moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Vasile stands up and waves to Collier to follow him.

Vasile looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vasile is trying to control. Collier wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cristian Vasile dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Vasile shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Collier napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Vasile tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Collier avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vasile.
Collier wants to control but Vasile postures up.
Vasile wants to lay and pray for a moment but Collier keeps working.
Vasile has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Collier drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Vasile gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Vasile has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Collier uses from the top position.

Vasile escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Collier gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vasile pushes a forearm under Collier's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Collier is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
