PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Scott Gouken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denver Washington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Washington has chosen Gaff's Eulogy by Andrew Bayer as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Denver Washington was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Scott Gouken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Denver Washington!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Kavanagh and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gouken misses with a right hand
enabling Washington to counter with a crisp jab.
Washington misses with a head kick.
Nice uppercut there from Gouken.


It looks like Denver Washington has been cut.
Washington throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Washington works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Washington slips under a jab.
Gouken wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Gouken gets the takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Washington is looking to regain half guard here but Gouken keeps moving and retains side control.
Gouken lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Gouken tries to advance to mount but Washington denies him.

Gouken wants to lay and pray for a moment but Washington keeps working.
Washington trying his best to control but Gouken has mounted him.
Washington is desperately trying to improve his position but Gouken has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Washington felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Gouken goes for an armbar but Washington turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Washington.

Gouken wants to stand and escape but Washington is having none of it.
Gouken pulls Washington in close to his closed guard and prevents Washington from doing any damage or advancing position.

Washington wants to pass the guard but Gouken is defending well.
Gouken is staying active underneath Washington, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Gouken wants to stand but Washington is controlling the position.

Gouken is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Washington is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Gouken is defending well.

Washington wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Gouken uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Gouken looking to hit a scissor sweep but Washington is one step ahead there.

Gouken has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Washington off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gouken uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Washington has time to react.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denver Washington is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Washington is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Denver Washington showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Gouken looks for the body kick but Washington saw that one coming.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Washington scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gouken doesn't seem bothered though.
Washington moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Oh Gouken is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Gouken will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Washington drops Gouken with a beautiful combination! Gouken stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Washington is looking for the KO!

Washington might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Washington throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gouken stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Gouken ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Washington moves away.

Gouken gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Gouken tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Washington is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Gouken buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Gouken!! Gouken is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Washington throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Denver Washington!
Denver Washington seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
