PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roman Kvasov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Duddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kvasov might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Diskoteka avaria-Nebo. Duddy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dropkick Murphys - 'Loyal to No One'. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Roman Kvasov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Duddy!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kvasov darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like John Duddy has been cut.
Kvasov throws a sloppy head kick and Duddy moves out of range easily.
Kvasov paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Duddy throws a series of punches but Kvasov avoids them all with ease.

Kvasov has Duddy up against the cage in a clinch.

Duddy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Duddy misses with a hook. Kvasov ducked under it nicely.
Duddy tries to move into range but Kvasov moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kvasov, right into the meat.
Kvasov misses with a double jab.
Duddy sizes up Kvasov with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kvasov tries to bum rush Duddy with a series of wild strikes but Duddy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Duddy pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Kvasov back to the cage. Duddy follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Duddy misses with an uppercut.

We've been informed that Duddy has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Duddy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kvasov moves away.

Kvasov forces Duddy back against the cage and clinches.
Kvasov fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Kvasov misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kvasov goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Duddy blocks an uppercut.
Duddy blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kvasov doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Kvasov misses with a short punch on the inside.
Kvasov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

I was talking to Kvasov's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Duddy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kvasov wants to clinch up but Duddy keeps it at a distance.
Roman Kvasov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kvasov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Duddy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kvasov feints and then cracks Duddy's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Duddy down.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kvasov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Duddy blocks an uppercut.
Duddy blocking some punches.
Duddy misses with a hook from the clinch.
Kvasov taking a breather.

Kvasov misses with the head strike.
A right hand to the body from Kvasov.
Duddy is trying to break the clinch but Kvasov is controlling him.
Kvasov misses with a punch on the inside.
Duddy blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Kvasov effectively controlling the action here.
Kvasov throws a punch but it's blocked by Duddy.
Kvasov stalls.
Kvasov lands a left hand that snaps the head of Duddy backwards.

Kvasov scores with a shoulder strike.
Duddy jumps guard but Kvasov stands there with Duddy around his waist. Duddy gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kvasov is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Duddy prevents a body shot from Kvasov.
Kvasov lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Duddy or not.

Duddy tries a head kick but it misses.

Kvasov closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Kvasov slowing the pace effectively.
Kvasov lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kvasov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Duddy throws a shot from downtown. Kvasov moves away and avoids it.
Kvasov thuds his right hand into Duddy's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Kvasov scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Kvasov circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Duddy drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Kvasov follows Duddy to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roman Kvasov!
A relieved looking Roman Kvasov thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
