Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doomsday Drost (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drost is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Kilpi - Sielut Iskee Tulta. Doomsday Drost has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gunnar Nelson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Doomsday Drost!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drost will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nelson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Drost to score with a decent uppercut.
Drost tests Nelson's chin there with a solid looking shot.


It looks like Gunnar Nelson has been cut.
Nelson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Drost throws a lazy right hand but Nelson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Nelson throws a quick inside leg kick.
Nelson connects with a jab.


It looks like Doomsday Drost has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Drost tries to keep at a distance but Nelson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Drost stalling the fight.
Drost misses with a short punch on the inside.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Nelson lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Nelson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Drost is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nelson to the mat. Nelson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Drost working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Nelson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Nelson is trying to control the position but Drost postures up.

Nelson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Nelson tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Nelson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Drost avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nelson has his foot on Drost's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Drost works his way back into a safe position though.

Drost throws a big elbow that misses.

Nelson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Drost is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Nelson.
Nelson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drost looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nelson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nelson manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Drost trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nelson trying to keep a closed guard but Drost is proving a slippery customer.

Nelson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Drost is in close to Nelson's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Drost pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nelson is keeping the position for now.
Drost seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Doomsday Drost wasn't active enough on the ground.

Nelson lands with an overhand left.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Drost misses with a straight left.
Nelson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Nelson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


Gunnar Nelson's cut is getting worse.
Nelson throws a head kick that misses.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Drost throws a hook to the side of Nelson's head but Nelson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Drost uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nelson.
Nelson takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Nelson has his takedown stuffed
and Drost counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Doomsday Drost will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Nelson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Nelson throws out a loose jab but Drost uses good head movement to avoid it.
Drost has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Drost blocks a head kick by Nelson.
Nelson misses with an uppercut.
Nelson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Doomsday Drost seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nelson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nelson misses with a hook. Drost ducked under it nicely.

Drost closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nelson to the mat! Nelson manages to get full guard.
Drost stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nelson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nelson wants to sweep here but Drost controlling him for the moment.

Drost lands a couple of digs.
Drost won't allow Nelson to sweep him here.

Nelson has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Drost doesn't defend quickly enough and Nelson has managed to lock this one up! Can Drost escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Nelson on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Gunnar Nelson!
