PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Star Dust (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dust comes to the cage accompanied by Die for Metal. Davis has chosen Atomic Dog - George Clinton as his entrance music. Larry Davis acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Star Dust!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Larry Davis!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dust misses with a double jab
and Davis counters with a good, hard body kick but Dust shrugs it off.

Dust gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Davis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dust prevents it.
Dust tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Davis taking a breather.
Davis lands a left hand that snaps the head of Dust backwards.
Dust misses with a knee strike.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Davis has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Davis has Dust pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Davis pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Dust tumbling to the mat - Davis dives into Dust's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dust is on top in guard.

Dust stays in close to Davis's body and controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Star Dust.

Davis takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Davis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Dust wants to clinch up but Davis keeps it at a distance.
Star Dust seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dust is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Davis.

and Davis counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Dust has his foot on Davis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Davis works his way back into a safe position though.

Dust is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dust walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Davis checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

and Davis makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Dust really felt that one!

Dust takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

That kick from Dust tenderised Davis's leg. Davis is trying to keep his angry face on.

and Davis counters by moving into the clinch.
Davis wants to break free but Dust has control.
Davis tries to pull guard but Dust won't allow it.
Davis is trying to push Dust away but Dust has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Dust misses with a short punch on the inside.
Dust lands a shoulder strike.
Davis wants a takedown.
Davis blocks an uppercut.

Dust breaks from the clinch.
Larry Davis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dust misses with a left hand
and Davis counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Davis uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Dust.

Dust fails in his attempt to clinch.

The fight stays on the outside here - Dust looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dust throws a low kick but it's checked well by Davis.
Dust lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Dust rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

This has been an exciting period of action!
Dust throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Dust looks to land a right hand but Davis moved out of range.
Dust throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dust misses with a straight right.

Some wild striking there from Dust.
No joy there for Dust, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dust jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Dust misses with a few strikes there.
Dust misses with a wild body shot.
Dust lands a right hook to the body.
Nice uppercut there from Dust.
Dust tries to clinch there but Davis circles away.
Dust feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Daviss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Star Dust is winning the standup battle so far.

Dust throws a leg kick

and Davis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Davis.

Dust is looking for a triangle here but Davis uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Davis wants to stand but Dust is controlling his arm.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dust is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Dust fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Dust tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Davis was well out of range. Poor timing from Dust.
Davis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

and Davis counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Dust!

Dust gets back to half guard.
Dust tries to kick Davis off in order to stand up. Davis Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
You can see the frustration on Dust's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Larry Davis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Davis tries to stand but Dust is controlling his head.
Dust tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Davis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dust gets back to half guard.
Larry Davis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dust wants to get back to full guard but Davis has passed into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dust wants to get back to his feet.
Davis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Dust tries to improve position but can't.
Davis working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dust tries to buck Davis off but Davis is having none of it.
Dust struggling a bit here.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Davis tries to stand but Dust is controlling his head.
Dust tries to escape but Davis is in control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Star Dust.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dust, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
