PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Brit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brit kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Same in the End. Brian King will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Brit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brian King!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick lands from Brit.
King wants to clinch.
Brian King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brit scores with a shot to the body.
Brit throws out a powerful jab.
King tries to close the distance and clinch up but Brit swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Brit lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Brit tests King's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A nice inside leg kick there by Brit. That's going to slow King down.

King has Brit up against the cage in a clinch.
I was talking to Brit's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
King wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Brit pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
King wants to clinch
and Brit counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brit cracks a nice hook into King's ribs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Brit to counter with a crisp jab.
Good standup being displayed there by Brit as he connects with a hook.
King misses with a double jab.
Jimmy Brit is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Brit lands a nice hook to King's body. King takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
King is looking to clinch.
King takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Brit cracks King with an open hand slap.
King tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brit manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
King takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

King misses with a series of wild punches.
King throws a series of strikes that have Brit backpedaling.
That kick from Brit tenderised King's leg. King is trying to keep his angry face on.

King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brit, pushing him back against the cage.

Brit's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Brit jabs King right on the nose. King blinks but takes it well.
King moves forwards but Brit connects with a nice, crisp jab.
King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Brit lands a right hook to the body.

Brit gets tackled into the cage by King. King maintains the clinch.
Brit keeps the fight in the clinch, despite King's efforts to push away.
King is trying to break the clinch but Brit is controlling him.
Brit lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Brit's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Brit getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
An inside leg kick lands from Brit.
King tries to clinch but Brit moves out of range.
Brit feints and then cracks King's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow King down.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King dives in for a single leg takedown but Brit sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Brit lands an uppercut.
King tries to circle away but Brit has him pinned against the cage.

Brit escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
King wants to clinch but Brit slips to the side
and Brit counters with a thumping low kick.
Brit scores with a nice body kick.
King tries to close the distance and clinch but Brit swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Brit uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Brit lands a jab.
King tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Brit counters with a straight right hand.
King gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Brit.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
King dives in for a single leg takedown but Brit sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on King's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Brit breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King throws a right hand that Brit ducks under and follows up with a left that Brit also avoids with ease.
Brit lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
King takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Brit lands a nice shot that snaps King's head back.
Brit scores with a three punch combo!


King is rocked!
King wants to clinch but Brit slips to the side
and Brit makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
King is looking to clinch.
Brit connects with a looping right hand.
King is still on wobbly legs! Can Brit finish him?
Good shot there by Brit.
King looks up at the clock. Bad move! Brit lands a right hand from hell, dropping King. Brit pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Brit!
During a confident post fight interview, Jimmy Brit thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
