PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between David Luiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clark is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Rent a Wreck. Jack Clark told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Luiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Clark!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Luiz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Luiz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Clark sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Luiz throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Clark is looking for a sweep.
Luiz throws a strike aimed at the side of Clark's head but Clark avoids it well.
Luiz looks up at the clock and then as Clark takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Luiz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Luiz sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Clark is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Luiz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Luiz looks up at the clock and then as Clark takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Luiz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Luiz working the ground and pound but Clark is defending the strikes.
Luiz tries to score with some ground and pound. Clark controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Clark dodges the ground and pound from Luiz.
Clark seems a little lost for a moment, as Luiz dominates the positioning.

Luiz scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Clark to see if he's OK.
Luiz is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Luiz is staying tight to Clark's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Luiz scores with a couple of short elbows.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Luiz misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Luiz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The ground and pound from Luiz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Luiz connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Clark some visible discomfort.

Luiz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clark keeps working.
Clark is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Luiz's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Luiz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Clark is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Luiz is looking to advance position but Clark won't allow it.
Luiz is nestled in close to Clark, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Luiz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Luiz trying to control but Clark is having none of it.
Luiz landing strikes from the mount.

Luiz looking to control but Clark is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Clark felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Clark holds on, trying desperately to control.
Luiz trying to control but Clark is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clark takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Luiz content just to control the position here.
Luiz trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Luiz dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Clark avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Luiz is looking to clinch.
Luiz slips a jab from Clark.
Luiz tries to clinch but Clark moves out of range.
Clark ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Luiz moves away.
Luiz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Clark lands a right hook to the body.
Luiz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Clark pinned against the cage. Clark gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The fighters circling - Clark throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Clark ducks under a wild hook from Luiz.

Luiz takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Luiz avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Luiz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clark as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Luiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Clark keeps the fight on the outside.

Clark circles away from the clinch attempt
and Clark counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Luiz walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Clark misses with an uppercut.
Clark throws an overhand right that lands on Luiz's shoulder, as Luiz tries to avoid the shot.

Luiz has taken the fight to the clinch.
Luiz lands an uppercut.

Luiz misses with a hook from the clinch.
Clark is stalling here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Luiz looking for a takedown.
Luiz is working for takedown but Clark is calmly controlling the position for now.
Clark misses with a hook to the ribs.
Luiz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Come on Clark - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Clark misses with a short punch on the inside.
Luiz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Clark pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Clark lands a body punch.
Luiz swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Clark softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Clark works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Clark escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nice sprawl there from Clark as Luiz shoots in.
Clark throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Luiz on the side of the head.
Clark keeps the fight on the outside.
Luiz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Clark.
Luiz moves out of range of the strikes.
Clark circles away from the clinch attempt.
Luiz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Clark scores with a nice head shot.
Luiz tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Clark counters with a stiff right hand.

Luiz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Clark was covering up waiting for the punch and Luiz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Luiz's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Luiz is looking to work some ground and pound but Clark has wrist control.
Luiz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Clark keeping moving, preventing Luiz from controlling successfully.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Luiz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Luiz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Clark is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Clark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Luiz wants to clinch but Clark slips to the side
and Clark counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Clark ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Luiz moves away.
Nice sprawl there from Clark as Luiz shoots in.
Clark lands a nice looking body shot.
Sloppy strikes from Clark. Those never looked like landing.
Luiz throws a hook but Clark blocks it.

Luiz pushes Clark up against the cage in a clinch.
Clark wants to stall.
Clark stops a takedown attempt from Luiz.
Luiz is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Luiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Luiz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Clark pulls his leg out and moves away.
Luiz missing with a left hand there. Clark was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Luiz gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Clark.
David Luiz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Luiz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Clark quickly recovers to half guard.
Clark really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Luiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Clark has a hand on Luiz's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Luiz takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Clark sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Clark wants to control but Luiz passes into side.
Clark tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Luiz is looking to take a break and control but Clark is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Luiz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Luiz throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Clark tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Luiz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Luiz wants to take a breather but Clark manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Luiz.

Luiz missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Luiz content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Clark wants to sweep here but Luiz controlling him for the moment.
Luiz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Clark is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Luiz throws a strike but Clark rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Clark trying to stand up but can't free himself from Luiz's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Clark trying to control but Luiz is working from the bottom.
David Luiz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up because David Luiz just wasn't active enough.
Luiz tries to clinch but Clark is having none of it.
Luiz on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to David Luiz.
I think Luiz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
