PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arnulfo Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deacon Albatross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deacon Albatross will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Arnulfo Richard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Deacon Albatross!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Albatross has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Richard.
Richard blocks a head kick by Albatross.
Albatross throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Albatross shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Richard as he jumps to the side.
Albatross moves in looking to clinch but Richard pushes him off.

Albatross shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Richard is trying to defend but Albatross finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Albatross is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Albatross perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Albatross is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Albatross is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Richard reverses the position - he's now on top in Albatross's guard.
Richard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Richard postures up in Albatross's guard and throws a big left but Albatross blocks it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Deacon Albatross was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Albatross throws a head kick but Richard moves out of range.

Richard defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Albatross.
Richard dives in and grabs Albatross's left leg, looking for a takedown. Albatross pushes down on Richard's head and hops out.
Albatross throws a big shot that misses.
Richard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Albatross closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Richard did well to prevent Albatross getting side control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Albatross lands a nice short elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Albatross wants to stand up but Richard has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Richard manages to get to full guard.
Richard wants to get back to his feet but Albatross is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Albatross tries to free his leg and advance position but Richard is retaining full guard.
Albatross passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Albatross tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Albatross has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Albatross wants to stand but Richard has his arm trapped.
Albatross looks winded!

Richard is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Richard looks like he's trying to stand up.

Albatross is looking for a kimura here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Deacon Albatross dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Albatross gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Richard decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Albatross's guard.

Richard throws a big right hand that misses.
Albatross wants to sweep but no luck.
Richard with a flurry of punches that miss.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Albatross can do anything to dispel that myth.

Albatross is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Albatross wants to stand but Richard is controlling the position.

Albatross is breathing heavily.
Richard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Albatross works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Richard won't allow Albatross to sweep him here.
Albatross is pulling down on Richard's head to control his posture.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Albatross with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Richard can't handle though.
Richard throws an elbow that misses. Albatross uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Richard's guard. Nice move by Albatross!
Albatross passes Richard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Richard is defending against the submission attempts here by Albatross.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Albatross in particular looking to stall.
Richard is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Richard is trying to stand up here but Albatross is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Albatross moves into range and clinches up with Richard.

Albatross breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Richard gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Richard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Richard can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Albatross controls the pace.
Richard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Richard is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Richard stops Albatross from getting back to his feet.
Richard throwing shots but Albatross is blocking nicely.

Richard throws a strike but Albatross avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Albatross wants to stand up but Richard is controlling him.
Albatross has his hands on Richard's head, controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Albatross is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Richard defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Deacon Albatross showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Richard gets caught flat footed, as Albatross shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Richard trying to keep a closed guard but Albatross is proving a slippery customer.
Albatross wanted to stand there but Richard had control of the position.
Albatross advances position into side control!
Richard prevents Albatross from improving position.
Richard is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Albatross is controlling him well.

You can see the frustration on Richard's face as Albatross controls the position.

Albatross has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Albatross is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Albatross forces Richard back against the cage and clinches.

Albatross has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Richard uses from the top position.

Albatross has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Richard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Albatross lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Richard!
Richard wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Deacon Albatross comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Albatross has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
