PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Jimino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Olek Skilgannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Jimino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Olek Skilgannon!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Jimino looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jimino misses with a double jab.
Jimino fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Skilgannon avoids it really well and circles away.
Jimino closes the distance looking to clinch

and Skilgannon counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jimino won't be happy with that.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jimino is trying to escape the position but Skilgannon is controlling the position.

Skilgannon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jimino is looking to reverse the position.
Jimino is working hard here to advance position.

Skilgannon is trying to get an arm triangle but Jimino is defending well.

Skilgannon advances nicely into full mount.
Jimino is squirming around, avoiding Skilgannon's attempts to control the action.

Skilgannon is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jimino to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jimino shrugs it off.

Skilgannon pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Jimino is trying to escape the mount.
Skilgannon tries to control but Jimino wriggling away.

Skilgannon looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Skilgannon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Jimino is on top in guard.

Skilgannon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jimino not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've been informed that Skilgannon has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Skilgannon has his foot on Jimino's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jimino works his way back into a safe position though.
Jimino wants to pass the guard but Skilgannon is keeping the position.
Skilgannon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jimino has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Skilgannon throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jimino escapes and throws Skilgannon's legs to the side, diving into side control!
You can see the frustration on Skilgannon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jimino is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Skilgannon will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Skilgannon is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Jimino is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Skilgannon is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Olek Skilgannon dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jimino fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Jimino scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Skilgannon tries to improve position but can't.
Jimino is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Skilgannon's shoulder. That is not cool.
Skilgannon tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jimino wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Jimino tries to advance to mount but Skilgannon denies him.

Skilgannon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Skilgannon is still trying to improve position.
Skilgannon keeps trying to improve his position.
Jimino just content to control the position.
Skilgannon tries to bench press Jimino off him but Jimino keeps the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jimino tries to advance to mount but can't.
Jimino is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Jimino trying to control the position but Skilgannon is working away.
Jimino slows the pace down.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Joe Jimino.
Jimino on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Skilgannon. Skilgannon obviously looking to wear him down.
Jimino shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Skilgannon as he jumps to the side.
Joe Jimino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Skilgannon. Jimino does a little dance to reset his feet.
Skilgannon scores with a head kick. Jimino tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Skilgannon shoots in but Jimino avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jimino moves in looking to clinch but Skilgannon pushes him off.

Jimino fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Skilgannon sprawls well initially but Jimino persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Jimino keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Jimino is keen to just control but Skilgannon is a slippery customer.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jimino prevents Skilgannon from improving his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Olek Skilgannon.
Skilgannon checks the leg kick nicely there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jimino misses with a wild body shot.
Skilgannon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jimino manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Joe Jimino is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jimino closes the distance and clinches up with Skilgannon, looking for a takedown. Jimino pushes Skilgannon against the cage but Skilgannon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
No joy there for Jimino, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Jimino dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Jimino stuffs the takedown attempt from Skilgannon. Skilgannon gets slowly back to his feet.

Jimino throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Skilgannon counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Jimino!

Jimino sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jimino wants to improve his position but Skilgannon is controlling well.

Jimino is defending against the submission attempts here by Skilgannon.

Jimino tries to roll over but Skilgannon keeps him under control.

Skilgannon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jimino sees it coming and defends easily.

Skilgannon is looking for a kimura here.
Skilgannon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jimino looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Skilgannon trying to pass the guard but Jimino defending well.
Jimino wants to get back to full guard.
Skilgannon is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Skilgannon is thwarting Jimino's attempts to control the position.

Skilgannon is looking to stall here but Jimino recovers full guard.

Skilgannon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jimino knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Jimino tries to improve position but can't.

Olek Skilgannon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Skilgannon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
