Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gabriel Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Uruk Owraa!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Owraa.
Cruz has been working on his boxing with his coaches at HILITE Fighting Club in the buildup to the fight.

Owraa darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Owraa keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Cruz actively working from the bottom here.
Owraa trying to control from half guard but Cruz is working away.
Owraa is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Cruz is looking for a sweep. Owraa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, if Owraa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Uruk Owraa has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Owraa takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Owraa misses with a wild combination.
Owraa looks to score with a jab to the body but Cruz is just out of range.
Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown but Owraa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cruz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Owraa connects with a high kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cruz.
Owraa takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Owraa takes a swing at Cruz's ribcage but misses.
Cruz cracks Owraa with a right hand to the side of the head.
Cruz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Owraa sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Cruz misses with a looping right.
Owraa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Owraa shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Cruz dives in and scores a takedown into Owraa's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cruz passes into half guard.

Owraa is defending against the submission attempts here by Cruz.

Cruz is working for a kimura but Owraa is defending it quite comfortably.
Owraa is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Cruz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Owraa is not content to let Cruz control the position.

Cruz is working for a submission of some sort.
Cruz perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Owraa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cruz stops Owraa from getting back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cruz in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Owraa tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cruz!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gabriel Cruz!
Gabriel Cruz was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
Uruk Owraa spoke after the fight, saying 'I did not get to drink the blood of my opponent but I promise Il be back to take his soul.'.
